    1. Got this one from a regular eBay seller week before last. There were a few nice looking 7th class awards that had better gold plating than this one, but I really wanted the mint marked piece. Rosette happened to be hallmarked as well. Other than the somewhat faded gold plating, it's not bad. I hate photographing these though, they are too dang reflective!
    2. And then one of each from the Meiji and Taisho Periods!! Thanks for sharing!
    3. Very nice thread guys! Really neat medals for sure!
    4. One day - the great mystery will be solved!! I sure wish more of these came with their documents though - would probably make more sense somehow. I can only guess the markings are chronological.
    5. It's a nice set, but appears that the lapel rosette is MIA - and apparently nobody is willing to pay that asking price! You know though, the newer Orders are simply not as luxurious as those of the past. Nice, but not as nice in my opinion.
    6. That just seems so random!! They will be condemned to the 7th level of Hades! ;)
    7. I hope you're keeping track of all of these markngs!!
    8. I'm wondering if the lapel pin is actually correct for these medals, or if added after the fact? I know these were supplied with the "corporate" orders, and typically missing. I suppose it is possible that these were also used for these orders as well.
    9. That info must be out there somewhere! How great it would be to find it! Very nice Nick! All 3 - excellent!! :jumping:
    10. I see the seller has added comments at the bottom that he/she was given comments that it is a fake!! Do you know how much they paid for it on Yahoo! Japan?
    11. Learn something every day! Dermis of course makes sense! My guess is that these are the earliest cases used post-1956. I have yet to see a woman's award in a case like this, but surely they must exist!
    12. But other than a skin cream, what exactly is "dermatin"?
    13. Got me some! Yeah, crummy pictures....
    14. I know, right?? Fantastic price! I couldn't actually believe that I found the auction and the thing was unsold at the time! I knew it wouldn't last though, not for that price. But that is really more in line with what one sees on Yahoo! Japan, or slightly better!
    15. Now, this is far more rational, I'm sure many of you saw this one: http://www.ebay.com/...984.m1423.l2649 Not the BEST condition, but not bad at all. Hard to beat that price. I almost pulled the trigger on it, but had to pass it up until my wallet recovers from my car bills!
    16. I received my copy yesterday - I am IMPRESSED! I've only had a chance to comb it briefly, I can not wait to have a moment to sit down and start seriously reading it! It came out very nicely. My sincerest congratulations to Gavin on this, and to Richard - a very nice Forward!
    17. Na, not that many!! But I do try to collect them when I see minor variations. I'd wager that the chance of ever coming across an original is very slim. That said, many of these "new" ones would definitely have been issued to veterans as there is evidence to this. Sure, some were made for the collector's market or to be purchased by whomever - buy you definitely see these with markings that indicate regiments and so on, both the Great East Asia War medal as well as the Commemorative versions. You'll find these with dated paperwork too, best I can tell, the majority of these are from the 70s and 80s. Don't know if you can still buy these as "new" or not. But some of them are in FINE condition, no doubt! A nice, complete piece might include the cardboard box with a paper wrapper depicting the medal (rare), the medal and case of course, and possible the cellophane (?) wrapper for the case and some sort of explanatory document. They're out there! Brian, wait until one of these comes along as "complete" as possible - you'll be happy - these are really nice quality pieces - yeah, the cases are typically plastic, but there are the wood and lacquer versions too (the lacquer ones are REALLY nice - solid silver), but the other copies are too. And keep your eyes open for the Imperial Guard variant! Totally different center on the obverse and different inscription on reverse and case. There really is a significant amount of variation in these (post-war) medals, really fun to collect!
    18. Still nice though! Thanks for posting!
    19. WOW! That is seriously impressive. Document #1 - and looks in very good condition - priceless!!!
    20. Not sure which order, but it was a Grand Cordon - sash, medal, breast star, and case if I recall correctly?
    21. Kinda figured it'd go high. Did you catch that Korean order a few days ago though that went for 2,198,000 yen? PHEW!! Or some big number like that, can't recall exactly, but it was around $24,000 U.S.!!
