    1. Hi all,

I picked this group up recently. There are some interesting features - placing of the ribbons of and the lack of swords
on the ww1 commemorative medals. Also, the placing of a wreath device on the Austrian commemorative medal
must have been something of a personal choice or just to replace broken off swords... haven't seen this before...

I've added a closeup shot of one of the enameled wreath devices - the enamelling is microscopic thin :D

Hope you like the pictures, all comments welcome :)

    2. Probably not identifiable since the White Falcon rolls are incomplete (IIRC, Rick and Daniel said a portion of the GSF3bX rolls were missing, including for a lot of natives of the Grand Duchy). There are no rolls for the Silesian Eagle.

Would be cool if a name could be found in the remaining portion of the rolls... Are the missing parts of the rolls floating around somewhere or are they really lost?

I was looking thru the threads concerning the White Falcon order.... and, well this might be a long shot, but what about the guy in post 60 of this thread:

      http://gmic.co.uk/index.php/topic/14487-order-of-the-white-falcon/page-3?hl=+white%20+falcon

Off course there still remains the question of the uniqueness of the combination...

    3. Hi all,

Received this one lately. It's pretty worn and must have had quite a rough live.

The blue's and white's have all faded to an even colour. All the parts are UV negative.

The SS devise is a bit loose so I was able to make a photo of the ribbon colour behind the device - the ribbon has less faded behind the device than the rest showing remains of the original colour, matching the contours of the device - also the device has left an imprint in the cloth.

      Opinions?

      Regards,

      Peter

    4. How is the device attached? - Looks like the original metal rivet is still visible from the reverse. Perhaps the original devise was lost in the field, and a squadron mate cast a new one from resin?

The eagles head looks to be a multipart device - there's a metal base over which the bakelite layer is moulded. Its doesn't look te be a fieldmade one - it would have been a much cruder design when made in the field....

    5. I've seen a couple of these over the years and, like you, have wondered why this material was used. There could be a number of reasons....most likely an experimental exercise perhaps to cut down on the use of high grade metals? The manufacturing company, as well as producing metal die struck items, may have also produced items made from this substance and found it to be more cost effective, and once the finish was applied it would have been hard to tell the difference.

      Certainly an interesting piece.

In all the years I've been collecting this is the first one for me so would be cool to see more examples.

If anyone as any photo's of these, please post :jumping:

    6. Stuck at 9--

      1) Udo Gruschwitz of KS IR 102, Oberleutnant aD. But there was a Wehrmacht (E) officer that might have been him... or another of the same last name.

      2) Friedrich Günther, wartime Lt dR, ex KS Jäger Bn 13 and a flyer. He was NOT the 1930 Nazi Ministerialdirektor of the same name *1880--the Nazi had Silver St Henry Medal. Nazi was a WW1 observer but was NOT repeat NOT t-h-i-s Friedrich Günther.

      3) Hans Graf von Metzsch-Reichenbach of KS Garde Reiter Rgt, Rittmeister aD. Unlikely nazi

      4) George (yes Georg-e) Graf von Platen-Hallermund, same rank and regiment as Graf von M-R. Ditto

      5) Erich Saupe of KS IR 102, Hauptmann aD. But Erhard Roth listed full datess, implying he'dd seen his records and no ÖM3K?

      6) Oskar Schmiedel of KS IR 102, Oberleutnant aD

      7) Hans Soltmann, a wartime Lt dL of Flak. Landwehr WW1 unlikely Russia 1942...

      8) Walter Tropitzsch, wartime Oberleutnant dR ex KS FAR 68 also Flak. Commissioned first in 1908-- seems too old for 1942 ...

      9) Zipfel brothers/cousins of KS IR 102. Ernst (Hauptmann aD) had the two Saxon Orders BUT... Georg (Oberleutnant aD) hd SH3 and SA3bX with no SV3bX. Unortunately wouldn't you just know it--with TWO same wartime rank and regiment, the BMV4X roll doesn't give 1st name!!! :banger:

:) i'm as always impressed by the results

This is gonna need some more digging :ninja: maybe the NSDAP membership list could be of help in this one...

    7. AIEEEEEE!!!!!! Looks like it was exhumed!!!! :speechless1:

Not sure looking at what's left that IS an NSDAP 10. I don't see white/brown/white narrow edge stripes-- it looks like Dark Yucky Color Edge/White/Dark Yucky Color Center/White/DYC Edge. Brown? Blue? Dark Yucky Color?...

Of 251 Saxon officers with BMV4X, at first pass, only 11 cannot be eliminated--but none of them were SS in 1935 or Saxon SA in 1934. I'm omitting trying to trace any form of NSDAP service--not sure about that ribbon--and just going by the WW1s for officers whose other awards do not eliminate them, Wehrmacht service etc etc.

      Truly appalling condition.

Yeah it definately is one of the worst I own :43:

I've added a detailimage from the back, the NSDAP award is clearer from the back, looks more chocolate brown and has the double white stripes, one of which is being overlapped....

Any chance of narrowing down the search?

    8. Hi all,

Received this nice Saxon ribbon bar set this week. Pretty beatup set, but still attached to another :)

      EK2
      War Merit Cross

      Eastern front medal

      Saxony Civil Merit Order
      Saxony Order of Albert
      Bayern Order of Military Merit
      Austria Military Merit Cross
      Hindenburg cross
      NSDAP Long Service Award
      Sudetenland medal
      Westwall medal
      Pro Deo Et Patria medal

      Any thoughts on the wearer?

      Regards,

      Peter

    9. New information has surfaced thanks to Paul and Daniel Krause

The ribbon bar (the first one) belonged to OTLaD Herbert Sander. In 1914 he was a RM with HR 11 and the ranklist shows him with the RAO4 and ÖEK3. During the war he was on the staff of KD 2 as an adjutant which makes sense as he has awards from many different German states.

Attached are 2 images that were sent to me by Paul (from Daniel).

The ribbon bar is his wartime ribbon bar before he was awarded the white falcon. The group of Sander was sold many years ago and must have been broken up after. The pictures confirm the identification.

Does anyone know what happened to his other pieces?

      Regards,

      Peter

    10. There's a similar wreath device in the collectors image gallery with the ribbon bar devices gallery of RR.

      See: http://gmic.co.uk/in...t-monstrosity/.

According to Rick this device can only be attributed to Godet...

Good ones, but I'm not seeing anything Godet-ish on the first, bigger one?

The second one - used to be mine - is by Godet in my humble opinion.
