    1. Oho, a Lippe-bar, that isn?t in my collection????? Very uncommon and interesting combination! I like it! BUT...the owner must not have been wounded at the front...this medal was not a real wound-award. Only between 1914 and the beginning of 1915 55 soldiers from the 55th regiment (7. Westfaelisches) got the medal for beeing wounded at the front...but they got the medal without swords on it. And he may served in another regiment, maybe 55th but all other are also possible. But it?s sure that the was from Lippe. His first award was the military merit medal...later he got the war merit cross. According to the statutes he had to return the medal, but he didn?t (as many other didn?t return it). Why he didn?t get the IC II 1914, I can?t say...this is the uncommon point on this bar. A really nice medalbar...quite hard to find. Best regards Solomon
    2. Damn...I didn?t read properly...you are right....two possible states left (Brunswig / Lippe-Detmold).
    3. Nice merit cross... But I still have problems in believing that her got an order from Brunswig...that makes no sense. What I can read in this medalbar, is a young WW1-fighter from Lippe (maybe born in 1890 or a bit later), getting first the military merit medal Lippe-Detmold, then the IC 2nd class and at the same time the war merit cross. He had to return the merit medal (see statutes), but was allowed to wear the ribbon. For long service he got the long service medal 9 years before the end of the war, and in 1934-35 he got the Hindenburg-cross, as every WW1-fighter did. But for what he got the last order? A wartime-merit? I have a third idea...what?s about the civil merit medal ("Paulinenmedaille") Lippe-Detmold ??? Best regards Solomon
    4. Hi Daniel, I didn?t thought about that. I have Nimmergut?s ribbon catalogue here, the ribbon-size for the house-order Brunswig matches. But what where is the war merit cross 2nd class Brunswig? A single Brunswig house-order for a WW1-fighter from Lippe? Best regards Solomon
    5. Hello gents, this nice medalbar I got on ebay (maybe some of you saw it) ...and it makes me mad As you can see, the former owner got -iron cross 2nd class 1914 (marked with SM or WS) -war merit cross Lippe-Detmold -military merit medal (correctly returned after receiving the war merit cross) -long service medal for 9 years -Hindenburg cross - and....what????? The last ribbon looks like the ribbon for the house-order Lippe-Detmold, but it?s a bit different (the silver-thread in the golden stripes is missing). But which house-order he got, I can?t say. The following classes are possible: - silver merit cross of the house-order - house-order 4th class Div. A - house-order 4th class Div. A with swords But there is no chance to say which award it was Any other thoughts about it? Best regards Solomon
    6. Interesting question...no, haven?t yet! But it should be possible, the statues don?t say anything about that... Greetings Roman
    7. Hi folks, here is a nice ribbon-bar (old style) with an interesting owner. But without the name it?s impossible to identify... What can you see? -red eagle order 4th class -red cross medal Prussia 2nd class -long service medal -red cross medal Prussia 3th class -house order Lippe-Detmold 4th / 3th class What does it tell about the owner? Okay, it?s a non-combatant from Lippe, surely a doctor.... And who was it? Prof. Dr. Ing. August Borchard, born in Lemgo/Lippe on 4th July 1864 (died in 1940). Borchard was "Medizinalrat" and "Generaloberarzt" in Berlin and a famous surgeon. He wrote the book "Lehrbuch der Kriegschirugie" in 1917, a famous book. ("textbook of the war-surgery"). Okay, that sounds quite interesting...but now a rarity: Borchard got the LDH4a in 1908. In 1913 he got the officer?s cross Lippe-Detmold (the former 3th class) But in 1918 he got the officer?s cross with swords!!! I?m quite sure, that he got the swords for his book, helping doctors in the field-lazareth. I?m sorry...I only got his ribbon-bar...I have no idea, if these very nice crosses still exist... Hope you like it, too.... Best regards Solomon
    8. Oooops, now it is proofed....it must be August M?ller! Yes, Heinrich Hildebrand is a hot candidat...hardly to believe that a "Kalefaktor" got so many awards...but the lists tell us another story.
    9. Uaaaah...are you kidding?....too easy for me! Okay, what you can see??? A 1870-71 fighter from Lippe, not active in WW1. He got the SVK Lippe-Detmold for 1870 / 71. The GVK is a very late one...looks like Zimmermann made it... The clasps are the hint...this guy served in the 7th "J?ger-Bataillon" (6.8.70 Spichern , 14.8.70 Colombey-Nouilly, 18.8.70 Gravelotte-St.Privat , 19.8.-2.10. Metz) And his name???? August M?ller, F?rster zu Kreuztrup - No. 468 of the 1897-list The AO Saxony he surely got as "Lakai", hunting-assistant in the forrests of Lippe. Any doubts? Best regards Roman
    10. Hehe, that?s normal....every "Sch?tzenverein" has its Sch?tzenk?nig and Sch?tzenk?nigin...even today! The bycyclists are really interesting...but my favorites are the "Schlachtschwertierer" Best regards Roman
    11. And while Rick is busy, Wildcard?s nice medalbar is driving me crazy I?m down to only two possible owners, one was born in 1872 (a kitchen assistant / "K?chen-Kalefaktor"), the other man was born in 1861 (a smith / "Hof-Schmied"). But I?ll wait till Rick finished the cross-check...maybe he?ll find a third possibility
    12. Here is a photo showing me in the "archive-uniform" Sometimes Lippe?s inhabitants are quite bizarre and dangerous
    13. No no, Rick promised me to donate this nice medalbar, when I?ve identified the former owner... I?m Rick?s "Ober-Lakai", checking all lists in the archive... Best regards Roman
    14. Uuuuups, I have to empty my box...or I need more space for even more messages.... There is a small, very small problem to ID this returned medalbar.... I almost finished retyping the 1897-list (actually 900 of 1023 persons)...but, the cross-check with about 20,000 signed receipts of the LKr is an impossible job!!! The combatants are mixed with the non-combatants... The only chance are the receipts of the KVM (about 1.200), begging that he got it very late and all other awards are listed. Why isn?t there an 1905-medal on it...that would be easy!!!!! Best regards Roman
    15. No, definitly an accident. The centers (and the upper ringholder!!!! -never seen before!) are fixed with thin silver-nails, not with wax. Holly ######...this number of awards I didn?t expect... I just copied Reiner Schwark?s number of award from his book, I just forgot to check the award-list on my last visit in Detmold. Thank you very much for open my eyes... Best regards Roman
    16. I hope you like this patient, too...now he lives next to his brothers and relatives. Best regards (Dr.) Solomon Revers:
    17. Dr. Solomon starts with his healing hands (and a few wodden toothpicks) and here is the result: It?s a Lippe-Detmold House Order 2nd class (neck-cross) 2nd model with chiffre L for Leopold It was awarded between 1911-1918 about 173 times. Some data about this order: Size: 57 x 63 mm ribbon-ring: 22,45 x 10,45 mm weight: 46,4 gramm ribbon: silk, 60 mm with 5mm golden stripes (and 60 cm long!!!! Yipppiieeeh! ) This order was made by Jean Godet, Berlin. It?s silver gilded and the revers-enamel (red) has round lines (which is typicall for Godet).. Godet produced between 1911-1918, the late ones... Avers:
    18. Hi gents, this patient arrived yesterday and asked for a recreation. Many years ago he had an accident with sealing wax on his left side. (I knew that, before I bought it...) Here is the picture of his arrival:
    19. ...and here are the three brothers together: on the left: HO 3th class (later 4th class) in original case, awarded between 1869-1889 in the middle: HO 4th class division A in original case, awarded between 1890-1918 on the right: HO 4th class division B (civil-cross) in original case, awarded between 1907-1918 Nice family, aren?t they? Best regards Roman
    20. Hi gents, here is my new (old) member of the family "Lippe-Detmold House-Order". It?s a House-Order Lippe-Detmold 3th class (since 1887 4th class) with chiffre LA. This type is the oldest type of the house-order of Lippe-Detmold and was awarded between 1869-1889. With the change of the statutes in 1887 the former 3th class became the 4th class (same style). The house-orders with chiffre LA (L for Leopold from Lippe-Detmold and A for Adolph from Schaumburg-Lippe) were spent by both principalities (Detmold and Schaumburg) before their dispute about the crown (of Lippe-Detmold) and quite hard to find. My order seems to be a GODET-piece, who produced the 3th class (between 1869-1887), but I?m not sure about that. The later awards (=4th class) were made by Carl B?sch, Hannover (between 1887-1889). The size of the original ribbon is exactly one inch (1 Zoll), which fits to the 3th class, the ribbon of the later 4th class was 1,18 inch (3 cm).
    21. Hi gents, thank you very much for your help. Here is the summary: - Red Eagle Order 4th class - Johanniter-Order "Ehrenritter" - cross for long service 25 years - Brunswick House Order 2nd class - Saxe-Ernestine House-order 2nd class Komturkreuz - Waldeck House Order 3th class - Waldeck military-merit-cross 3th class (= "WVK3") ????? - Romania Order of the Star of Romania Knights-cross - Serbia Order of Takovo Offiziers-Kreuz ....and of course a "Centenar-medal".... Is this right? Best regards and thank you again Roman
    22. Hi gents, I need a little help. Another collector asked me to help him with the list of awards the Oberstleutnant Adolph von Arenstorff got Here are the known facts: He was in the Offiziers-Korps of the Inf. Rgt. No. 83 (8.2.1887 until 18.11.1911), then he moved to the F?s.-Rgt. von Steinmetz No. 37. He was born on 27.2.1859 and died on 13.2.1913. The following awards are known (until 1911): - Red Eagle Order 4th class - Johanniter-Order "Ehrenritter" - cross for long service 25 years - Brunswick House Order 2nd class - Saxe-Ernestine House-order 2nd class Komturkreuz - Bavaria merit-order 3th class (???) - Waldeck House Order 3th class (???) - Romania Order of the Star of Romania Knights-cross - Serbia Order of Takovo Offiziers-Kreuz Maybe not all orders are right...but which are missing? Wuerttemberg? What else? Can anybody help me with further information? Thank you very much, Roman
