    1. I remember when I first joined Inspectors and above wore a a mess dress type jacket? It had the rank on the lapels instead of the eppaulettes obviously inside the nick never outside.
    2. How with a Thames background did you end up at Penge? The nearest water to there is South Norwood lakes! Craig ( ExZN )
    3. Trust me Brian never hit a suspect with your Maglite in the UK unless you want to spend a lot of time with the rubber heelers! I'm sure Met coppers of a certain vintage will remember the plastic torch you were issued with at Hendon that would illuminate the area the size of a postage stamp! In my role I spend a lot of time in back gardens at 3 in the morning and I carry 3 Surefire torches that absolutely eat battery life and expensive batteries at that but are absolutely brilliant. As with most kit you have to buy yourself it's American but the company know what Police need and is a true lifesaver. Craig
    4. Jermil, What style did the states choose? I think Sussex Police tried to reintroduce the white helmet in Brighton a few years ago but it didn't seen to catch on. Probably due to most officers preferring the flat cap. Craig
    5. This would appear to be very rare photo taken, at Training school, Hendon.
    6. In amongst Brians Special post the subject of White Duty helmets came up. Not wishing to hijack Brians post I was wondering if we could get a defenitive list of those forces that adopted the white helmet and hopefully get some photos of members collections. Craig
    7. Joy, I've taken the liberty of changing your profile name for you. I hope this how you wanted it. If not give me a PM with how you want it. Best Craig
    8. To the British and the Army the War of Independence was a civil war and you wouldn't have a battle honour for fighting your own kin......that and we lost! Craig
    9. One of the rural county forces of the UK not fom a big city like London, Manchester or Glasgow Craig
    10. Nick, If a film do you think from Quadrophenia? If you could match it to that movie might worth a few quid! Craig
    11. I may have to wait for mine as no one has bothered to order ours from the powers that be. I've got my ribbon up on my tunic though I will soon look like a Russian General ( Only 3 )
    12. It's a difficult compromise. You need the tradition with the top hat etc but we carry taser, firearms, CS canisters torches. The uniform I wear is woefully inadequate for the job I do but the powers that be are more concerned with us wearing a crappy little Velcro patch with your name on it rather than supply us with say rip proff trousers. There should be a number 1 uniform and something fit for the 21st century but it won't happen so we do what we have always done and buy your own kit. Craig
    13. Time for a clue I think...... Not known by his real name his first being Eric
    14. Mike, If you ever see the Movie that scene is restaged when the new occupants who were Carribean find a body and the man hunt begins! I also joined the Police with a lad who's Dad was a copper before him and was the arresting officer of Christie which again is shown in the film. Craig
    15. Hope this is better. Sorry he is 3rd from left top row photograph taken in Burma.
    16. Maybe depending on your politics you could say this chap is infamous but I wouldn't agree. This was prior to a bit of military service where he was badly wounded though at this time a serving Policeman. 2nd from left top row
    17. Paul, He is the infamous John Reginald Hallyday Christie. If you want to know the story and watch a proper grown up scary movie you need to watch " 10 Rillington Place " starring Richard Attenborough and John Hurt. The house is gone and the road renamed but I can vouch that people still look for it. http://youtu.be/5u4J87ke1Mg
    18. He did 11 years from 1961 to 1972 in the Catering Corps before joining the old bill. Nilsen in uniform. He did get the GSM
    19. Now this young recruit from North London is from more recent memory. The picture is from 1972 any ideas?
    20. I posted this earlier ( And got the rank wrong ) and thought it a bit of a laugh, so here he is again followed by another infamous copper!
