    1. Dan,

Getting the medal should be doable. Getting the uniform will be almost impossible. Good luck in trying.

I ment to mention previously the , like you, I was impressed by the way the Collective presenatation cases for medals were set up. I have only seen one complete set for sale in all my years of collecting and I missed it because I gave the other guy 20 seconds to bid and he beat me by a Euro. Some you win and some you lose.

      Cheers,

      Gordon

      Hi Gordon,

Now see, I figured the medal would be difficult. I'd figured that it was one of the earlier issues that was later redesigned so figured it would be hard to get. I tend to see the various police uniforms, insignia, caps, etc. on Ebay all the time for fairly cheap. So figured the uniform would be alot easier.

On the collective ones, could you give me a "rough" idea of what they run? Feel free to PM if you'd feel more comfortable doing it that way. I've yet to see one outside of the reference but it's a beaut.

Speaking of losing... I'm so steamed. Ebay has been really funky with me this week. I just bid on a couple of DDR ribbon bars. One is a four ribbon customs bar... won that. But the important one to me was immediately afterwards... an eight ribbon bar for NVA, etc. I hit the confirm bid button and Ebay kicks back with confirm bid again! By the time I hit the button again the auction was over! I was furious!:banger: This is the second time this week that they've done this to me. Bid with plenty of time and then some glitch throws it all in the can. I don't mind losing when I'm outbid but I positively hate it when it's due to a technical problem. I just don't seem to any have luck at all with decent sized DDR ribbon bars. They either go for a small fortune or they go cheap when I get distracted or mix up the days or something. But in this case I was ready to go and it still messed me up. I'm beginning to wonder if I'll ever have an eight bar much less anything even close to it. And I've basically given up on anything bigger than an eight.

Sigh. Some days it just doesn't pay to get out of bed.

Oh well... back on the hunt I guess.

      Dan

    2. Dan,

Unterkommissar was the lowest grade of officer. His shoulderboards would have looked almost exactly like a Leutnant in the Third Reich Wehrmacht.

Very nice early Urkunde in a Mappe that matches the time frame.

      Cheers,

      Gordon

      Hi Gordon,

Many thanks! Again I'm hoping I did well on this. I've not seen enough of these Urkundes to really have a handle on values... and this is the first and only early one I've seen so really no idea here... totally new ground. But I just couldn't pass it up.

It would be really neat if I could find the medal to go with this as well as the complete VP uniform for his rank... would make a great display. Another long term project I guess. :jumping::jumping: Thank goodness as a general rule police stuff tends to be fairly cheap.

      Thanks again,

    3. [attachmentid=54876]Dan,

Just learning to post pictures on the board and that last one didn't work so well. The other book I wanted to tell you about was.

      Hi Gordon,

I actually do have the second of those two books... would definitely like the first at some point. Finding these at a decent price is the only problem. All DDR stuff seems to go sooooo high these days.

      Mucho thanks!

      Dan

    4. The Urkunde:

      [attachmentid=54858]

The signature of the Police President of Berlin:

      [attachmentid=54859]

Anyone have any idea on the name here?

I hope I did well with this one. I've seen quite a few of the more modern documents and covers but this is the first early one I've seen. Managed to get it for $20.50 plus shipping. To me I think it's well worth it. Now I'm wondering how hard it would be to find the actual award to go with it... or how much it would run.

Also does anyone happen to have a pic of the uniform this man would have worn or the rank insignia? And is this an officers or lower rank?

Needless to say I'm very excited by this one and can't wait to see it in person when it arrives. :jumping::jumping:

      Dan

    5. Hi all,

This is the newest addition to my DDR collection. It was actually found on Ebay by Vic (Order of Victory) who passed it on to me. (Many thanks Vic!!!! ). I managed to win the bid and can't wait till it arrives.

It's an Urkunde (award document) for a Polizei long service medal dated 1955 and awarded to Volks Polizei Unterkommissar Heinz Mueller and numbered 1271.

From the picture of the medal I believe it's an early type that was later redesigned. Of course I'm always open to more info if anyone knows more about this or any of my items. :D

These are the sellers pics by the way. His name is Torsten and goes by German.Militaria on ebay. I know several of our members know Torsten from other forums. And he should be joining us here at GMIC very soon. In fact he has some information to add about this document and I can't wait to see his post when he comes on board. :jumping::jumping:

He's a Gentleman and a Scholar and will be an excellent addition to our membership! And keep in mind that he runs some terrific auctions on Ebay so please, check out his listings... you never know, you might find a real prize like I did! :D

      First the outer cover:

    6. Dan,

The hat would add about $15.00 to the cost of the uniform. Displaying the tunic on a manequin without pants you could put a black belt on it. The best ribbon to put on this tunic would be the second one from the top. Medals could be worn to match the ribbon bar. For normal service wear IE with the black belt, a blue shirt and blue tie would be sorn. For dress occassion a white shirt and blue tie. Price of shirts and ties are unknown to me. I have never bought any. I use old shirt of my own most of the time. Hard to know just what you will get when you order a shirt or tie from ebay etc. Making holes in the tunic to add screw back badges is an individual choice and I'll have to leave that up to you to decide for yourself. I don't have an answer for aiguilletes for this unit. Shooting cords might have been worn but I have never researched that particular aspect.

      Regards,

      Gordon

      Hi Gordon,

Many thanks for all this great info. Sounds like I'll have to keep an eye out for the shirts and ties. I'll add the ribbon bar you suggest. And of course any other suggestions as to additional awards, etc. from my collection or perhaps something I should try to get would be most welcome.

I'm really getting excited about getting this one dolled up a bit. :jumping::jumping:

Many thanks for all your help on this.

      Dan

    7. Hahaha, yes I think she is charming, showing the great communist advantage :cheeky:

Here is one of my collection, a Lieutenant-Colonel collar tabs.

Very nice. I really like the yellow, red and silver against the green. Stands out and is very pleasing to the eye.

Please post more when you have the time. I know little about North Korean militaria but as with all things I'm open to learning as much as I can.

Oh, a question if you don't mind. I once saw what I thought was a neck order (no ribbon) which I have never been able to identify. It's been many years but I believe it had a bit of a red star design... but the one thing I distinctly remember is that it had a representation of what I believe was a North Korean soldier with the old style peaked field cap from the 50's (Korean War period)... similar to that worn by the soldier shown on the Order of Soldier's Honor.

Does this sound at all familiar to you? Did North Korea have any neck orders/decorations around that time? If not, might you have any idea what it was? I'd probably know it if I saw it again but so far I've not been able to find it anywhere I've looked on the web.

It's something that's been driving me nuts all these years. I had nearly made a deal for it but suddenly the owner decided to hold off until he found out more about it. I don't know if I lost a really good deal or something fairly common.

Again not even positive it was North Korean but the look of the soldier and especially the cap he was wearing looked very much like it was North Korean in origin.

      Thanks,

      Dan

    8. Hi, Dan

I haven't taken the collar shot. But I have a beautiful North Korean female 2nd lieutenant, her collar tabs is the same

      Tang Si

      Hi Tang Si,

Hey... don't tell my wife I said this but that's one North Korean 2nd Lt. who can conquer me anytime! :P:beer: Very attractive to say the least. I think if they all looked like that we'd be inviting them over... they wouldn't have to worry about invading! But I guess there would have to be some hunky guys for our women over here as well... gotta keep them happy too! :jumping::jumping:

Needless to say... I love  those collar tabs! Thanks for sharing.

      Dan

    9. A nice compass Jens.

See this thread for a British and US example http://gmic.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=10607

As far as I know, those manufactured after the 20s were higher.

      Tony

      Hi Tony,

Ya beat me to it my friend! Was just getting ready to post our thread on those when I saw this. You're just quicker on the draw tonight. :jumping::jumping:

Glad more of these are popping up. Can't wait to see the one Chris has. :jumping::jumping:

      Thanks,

    10. Happy to report Gentlemen,

That I'm about to get married on Oct. 28th and our Honeymoon includes 3 Days in Paris then off to Caen for two nights then finishing things off with a return trip to Paris. I got to get 48 hours to visit the beaches and surrounding areas. Part of my first decree by my future wife. LOL! I can't wait. Certainly seeing Rob's pictures inspires me to experience History first hand......

      Regards,

      Joel

      Hi Joel,

Let me be one of the first to congratulate you on your upcoming marriage! Sounds like you've got a keeper there for sure! :jumping::jumping: Talk about a win, win... wedding, Honeymoon in Paris and Caen and the Normandy beaches! Kim and I went to Maryland for ours but alot of that was also going to Gettysburg as she's a big Civil War buff too and we love going to battlefield parks and monuments of all types. She's a keeper too!

Hope you'll have a chance to get tons of pics to share when you get back. I envy you and hope to stomp around all those famous places myself someday.

Best of luck on your new life together with your wife to be. May God's blessings be upon you both.

      Dan

    11. Thanks the Portland area GW's are better organized and big! There are at least 20 of them in the Greater Portland area. But I tend to find most of my Military stuff at the outlet. Finally snagged last year a M43 (GI) Field Jacket in my size and it cost maybe by weight $5.00

Hey, another great find! :jumping::jumping: And if you consider shipping for that kind of thing I for one would much rather find it in person than have to pay the PO a small fortune. Seems you find things for cheap on Ebay but then have to pay through the nose on shipping. :o

      Dan

    12. Geez! Wish I could find those kinds of Goodwill stores! :o Seems like for years all the ones I've gone to have tried to be more "upscale". Used to be they'd take just about anything in the way of donations too... but they've gotten alot more picky and you just about have to have stuff that's in the original wrapping and brand new. Arrrrgh!

Great find and looks to be in super shape! Congratulations! :jumping::jumping:

      Dan

    13. Hi Richard,

Terrific Ehrenpokel, great group shot and a very interesting and moving presention on this thread. Most enjoyable!

I've kicked myself in my hindparts for twenty some odd years as I had the opportunity once upon a time to purchase an entire group consisting of the Honor Goblet, all the recipients awards, award documents, etc... a sizeable group and well documented for $1,400. Sadly too many other things tempted me away from it. I was still in the "kid in a candy store" phase which can be dangerous. And the worst thing is I had the funds in those days that I could have gotten it without any problem. I think of some of the things I did get and really regret not grabbing that group when I had the chance. It was from the vet's family as well so that was another definite plus. :speechless:;)

But hey, can't win them all I guess. :P Lord knows I've had a few really good finds and have been blessed by a few very nice pieces so I can't complain. And who knows... I may end up with one before all is said and done.

Terrific piece! Congratulations! It's a beaut!

      Dan
