    1. Other markings possibly indicate the soldiers number?
    2. Unit : "1/SS - Pi Pol. E. Kp" ... (1/SS - Pioneer Polizei. Ersatz. Kompanie) = 1/SS - Engineer Police . Replacement. Company.
    3. This Fighting/utility boot knife was obtained from a veteran many years ago. He was an engineer and, as the story goes, took it off a very bedraggled "SS pioneer" at the time of capture. A story is a story, but the date stamp (1944) use of late war metal and simulated wodden staghorn grips combined with a factory stamped unit designation, and proper style of armourer stampings found on the piece led me to believe his story.
    4. A german reworked cut-down of the full length version.
    5. The next two knives were originally produced by the Dutch for use by their armed forces, but during the occupation they were issued to members of the "SS" as combat knives. Full length example.

Continuing on from the excellent thread on WW1 Fighting Knives started by Chris… http://gmic.co.uk/index.php/topic/56870-ww1-fighting-knives-and-officer-bayonets/ .… I thought a look at those produced during WW2 would be of interest. So… if you have any in the collection, please post them. 1st up is the Luftwaffe ‘boot knife’
    7. That is a superb example of the ‘Westwall’ on a court mounted bar you have there. Imo, the best way to show off an award is a single mount. Schinkel EK2
