    1. I have recently come across these attractive Austrian badges, some kind of patriotic badge sold to support the war. I was interested in the difference in size and pin attachment and wondered whether any other members possessed any. The large one was only a 1€!
    2. Gents, thank you for the comments, apologies for not replying sooner. I should have picked up on the 1908 being on the civilian ribbon! Attached are some more pics.
    3. I was seeking some opinions on the following medal bar, apologies for the limited photo. I was interested to know if the precedence was correct, whether the absence of a long service award was a cause of concern, perhaps a reservist in 1908? It is an impressive number lower order of medals, looks like a lot of form filling was done by the recipient to get this lot!
    4. Tim, There is an actual thread that covers this subject, I also thought the of the long service thread ( which I enjoyed! )but if you search under 'white uniform', you will eventually find it! It is of particular interest as I actually have one of these, it had been languishing to one side as I was not sure exactly what it was, mine has traces of glue where the bakelite insert appears to have been applied/reapplied.
    5. Thank you for your help, I found the thread you refer to and it was very interesting.
    6. Is not! The reverse is in white, with the word patent added to the lower part. This example recently sold on ebay for €180, multiples of what the normal version sells for. Is this a recognised variant? perhaps as a private purchase option?
    7. Viewing this thread reminded me that I have an as yet unidentified badge that I suspected was Red Cross/Medic related? I hope you don't mind if I post some photos.
    8. Thanks gents for the reality check, glaringly obvious now, especially next to my fine example from 2006 ( which I still have ) I have to go the kitchen now for a slice of humble pie!
    9. What are the bad points on this Lubeck, I am keen to learn. If it's a reproduction it fooled me, very worrying.
    10. The Lubeck cross he had on ebay at the same time as the fake crosses certainly to me appeared original, ie red feet on the eagle, good enamel work and telling the flattened suspension ring. I might not be right of course, and the other suspect items would put me off buying anything at all. What do you think?
    11. That's a shame Tim, I agree the seller does sound rather odd and contradictory.
    12. Some of his items, and I stress, appear okay. It is a shame as all of his items for sale therefore become 'guilty by association'.
    13. I am starting to think this bar may be related to a German Student fraternity or Studentenverbindung.
    14. In my spare ribbon box I have a long length, maybe 12 inches of the ribbon shown on the left of the ribbon bar. I have never had a clue for what award it belonged to. Would be interested to find out also!
    15. Thanks for the comments gents. At least these later pieces avoid the rust spots then tend to develop on the earlier ones.
    16. I recently acquired this 1870-1871 non combatant medal and was interested in the length of time in which this medal was issued? This particular example is in almost mint condition, which suprised me. It is also non magnetic which is the same as a mounted example I have.
    17. The enamel is intact just some reflection occurring. Hope this helps Tim! I've only just realised the missing cross upon the crown of mine!
    18. Safely back in the UK, and I had another chance to spend another couple of hours at the Military museum in Budapest, which partly compensated two cancelled flights. I digress, here is my example. I believe the enamal in the crown is in two parts.
    19. Tim, When I am back home I will take some pics of mine for comparison, I still think yours is good. I am currently stuck in Budapest, two flights cancelled today due to snow. But it means I might get another chance to go the Military museum in the Castle District of Buda. Had a quick look already and some very nice Austro-Hungarian medal bars, uniforms etc I could have spent hours there, curators are bit officious though. Unfortunately my camera has expired but I doubt the aforemention would permit photography. Regards Richard
