    1. Does anyone have any info on the 10th IY, namely where they were recruited from and which Boer War areas they served in? Cheers mike
    2. Well dont drop them on their ends otherwise they wont be 'live' anymore and you may not be 'live' anymore!!
    3. p.s. these rounds have not been fired! Are they defused and disabled!!!
    4. Mike Excellent! Many thanks. Looks like he was pretty close with his first pass at them. I just think he needs to 'oval' them up and slim them slightly!? Mike
    5. Dear All Looking for some help here! I'm having a bust made up of a British Boer War Trooper. I want the detail to be as accurate as possible. I've commented on the bandolier and sent the sculptor some original pictures of one. What I'm unsure about is the shape of the rounds (bullets). Can anyone advise if these rounds are of the correct shape? Any pictures even better! cheers mike
    6. Thats a very nice SH QSA, I also love the 'name badges' do you make these yourself, its a good idea!!
    7. Very very nice would be interested in any to the Scottish Horse!? Cheers Mike
    8. Leigh Nice pictures! Just to clarify, the headgear worn here was not the same as the boer war headgear there was no yellow strip worn in the Puggaree, no tam o shanter worn and the NCO's and other ranks wore a leather hat band not khaki Puggaree - the officers wore a khaki Puggaree. The cock feathers are the same but the badges will be different with a wreath round the bottom and sides! Please keep the pictures coming! Mike
    9. I think my multiples were just slow responses, i thought it had frozen so tried again!!
    10. I dont think there is one particular place to go! You need to Google or Bing and find the various sellers best if you decide on what regiment you want first and this will make your searching easier! I'm sure some others on here will point you in the direction of reputable dealers! p.s. I've found that Bing brings up different results to Google and this has allowed me to get items that if I had stuck to google would have missed! Mike
    11. Mikka lots of Scottish regiments had tartan backing, the one in your picture is the Gordon Highlanders, if buying the (any regiment), badge make sure you get one that is for the period of the cap i.e. WW1. Mike
    12. I seem to have a multiple post problem! apologies!
    13. Stuart the Black Grouse not a standard chicken! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_Grouse
    14. Stuart - the Black Cock is a Grouse type of Bird and you can no longer use their feathers, so artifical ones are used thesedays! Info on the BC!

    16. Stuart They are standard feathers made to look like cock feathers, since real ones are impossible to find due to them being a protected species these days! Dont know about the yellow folds, its not mentioned anywhere in the Boer war info I have, is it a post-boer war thing? I'm only studing the SH during the boer war period at the moment but I do know they changed to Tam-o-Shanters at some point post Boer War but not sure when! The flash is taken from one of the books I have, it appears to be Murray tartan, the only doubt I have is that there may or may not be a yellow or red 'line' to the right of the flash but it could just be the picture! I'm pretty sure the yellow/red etc flashes did not come in till post Boer War! Mike
    17. Will do goiung forward, but thats it on the repro hat front for the time being! Got to get on with the scottish horse site!

    19. Cheers Mike - any approx value, although I'm keeping this one!? Can you give details of the book? Mike
    20. Just been looking at the third picture and the detail is extremely good, So regardless of what period it is I think its a vey nice piece!
    21. Stuart - second time lucky - just this one and the FS helmet! cheers Mike
    22. Hi all. I got this from a Car boot sale for £0.50. I think it reflects the Boer War period but not sure so any advice greatly appreciated. It looks too 'new' to be from the early 20th century but the gold round the edges has worn quite a bit?
