    1. Do you think it went with this? It was in the box also.
    2. I did find this Iron Cross in the box of my Grandfather's and Great Grandfather's Medals. On another site I was told it did not belong together. They were the only two items - Cross with no ribbon and ribbon with no medal. Possible?
    3. Hello Paul, I have one of these as well as a suspended sweetheart pendant. I am of the opinion that these are period because these are the only two I have seen.
    4. It is probably my fault. Everytime I consider selling off some of my collection the prices drop drastically.
    5. Many thanks Gents, Also I have many more Russian medals and badges I picked up back in the early '90s. Is there a reputable price guide and a reference book for Russian pieces?
    6. Thanks for the info. I had it looked at years ago and got a thumbs up then also.. Does anyone know what the number of this badge awarded? Can anyone translate the Awardees name? Thanks,
    7. I acquired this badge back in the early '90s. Recently I heard these were being reproduced. Badge of the Life-Guards Volynsky Regiment - Provisional Government Officially approved in 1917. Silver badge is in a shape of the wreath of wheatear from one side and palm brunch from the other. In the center of the badge there is standing soldier with a red flag and next to him is sitting woman in a traditional Russian dress. She holds a shield with the date on it “February 27, 1917” and silver branch in left hand. This badge was given to soldiers of reserved battalion of Volynsky regiment, particularly to those who participated in the events of February 1917. Soldier’s full name was engraved followed the regiment’s name “Volynetz”.
    8. This Iron Cross was in a box of medals from my grandfather. He was in the AH submarine service in WW1, an officer in the First Austria Republic and the a Quartermaster with the Gebirgs Jagers in the German Army in WW2. His Ribbon Bar does not show it. My Uncle was in the Gebirgs Pioneer in WW2 and was killed outside Murmansk in 1941. I have his military record. What would be the best posibility?
    9. What would be the value of this, if I may ask here?
    10. Where in the forums would the First Austria Republic 1919-1934 be located?
    11. Here is a pic of the cup and a card with the cup. The cup and pic of the officer went together. Any information about him would be great. Would you translate? Also you mentioned you were a sub sailor. What boat or boats?
    12. Ian, Thanks, I believe those are the medals in his photo if I am not mistaken.. Is there a Year Book that would have my Grandfather listed? Here are my Great Grandfather's awards
    13. Ian, I too was a sailor and a submariner. Thank for the info. I would like to know what awards my Great Opa received and any other information there might be about him. Von Thronstahl My Grandfather served from 1913 to 1918 but was on the U-4 from 1913 to 1916. He went to a surface ship in 1917 due to poor health. If you search "submarine" or "WJT" in this forum you will see his submarine badge. I see you are in Croatia. I was in Dubrovnik and Montenegro a few years back being interviewed for a documentary for Czech TV on the wreck of the Giuseppe Garibaldi and was able to walk in my Grand Opa's footsteps. Here is another photo of an officer a acquaintance of mine knew. He gave me the photo with a small cup from the KuK Kriegsmarine:
    14. Ian, Thank you so much for the information. What kind of information doe the 'Jahrbuch fur die Militarartze 1918' have in it. Also here are pictures of my Grandfather, Karl Otto Oatermaier:
    15. Here is a photo of my Great Grandfather. Karl Ostermaier, Militärmedikamentenoffizial Here is an interesting photo from a pamphlet about Hanns Hacker's military service: 1891 - 1961 Landesobmann der Tapferkeitsmedaillenbesitzer Osterreichs Hanns Hacker – ein Siebziger
    16. I collect CPO patches and I came across this one. This is an unusual rating patch. It is smaller that what I am used to. It is about the size of the current woman's rating patch but is woven on what appears to be light cotton. Does anyone have any ideas as to its use or even if it is military. Many thanks http://gmic.co.uk/uploads/monthly_04_2013/post-9887-0-22441800-1365421098.jpghttp://gmic.co.uk/uploads/monthly_04_2013/post-9887-0-97903200-1365421098.jpg

    18. I would like some help to identify this round. I would also like to know if it would have been used by Austrian Submatines during WW1. Thanks, Bill http://gmic.co.uk/uploads/monthly_06_2012/post-9887-0-18864000-1339781592.jpghttp://gmic.co.uk/uploads/monthly_06_2012/post-9887-0-30235500-1339781606.jpghttp://gmic.co.uk/uploads/monthly_06_2012/post-9887-0-41619100-1339781614.jpg
