Gordon Williamson Posted August 7, 2006 Posted August 7, 2006 As someone I know who really knows his 1870s says about them, " They have a lure all of their own".He ain't wrong thats for sure.
Daniel Murphy Posted August 7, 2006 Posted August 7, 2006 Gordon, Is it me or does that have a post '39 type frame with the wide arms? Other than that everything looks good about it which confuses the heck out of me. Is it a custom made original wide frame or ????Dan Murphy
gregM Posted August 8, 2006 Posted August 8, 2006 I think it looks just as it should. Here is another example to compare to.From the collection of Tiger 1
gregM Posted August 8, 2006 Posted August 8, 2006 The backside. Almost identical except this one has FANGSFrom the collection of Tiger 1
Biro Posted August 9, 2006 Posted August 9, 2006 A wonderfull, rare and totally genuine period addition to the collection Gordon.Even nicer for the condition and the CORRECT Godet marking for this era. Congratulations.'39 frame Dan?? Not on your life - this type as worn by the Kaiser himself - and one of the few you 1870 EK1 hunters should target!!Marshall
Daniel Murphy Posted August 10, 2006 Posted August 10, 2006 OK, mea culpa. I guess I have gone blind from seeing 1 too many fakes. They are beautiful pieces, I have to agree. Dan Murphy
Gary Posted August 11, 2006 Posted August 11, 2006 Nice crosses guys... I've got to get me one of those. Gary
Tony J Posted August 15, 2006 Posted August 15, 2006 A great find Gordon. It's nice to see another period example, but without the side hooks or fangs as Greg calls them. (Thanks Greg! )It doesn't get any better than this folks. In four decades I've had five other 1870 EKIs pass through my collection before I found a Godet example. IMO these are the cream of the crop bar none. They are rare by any measure and a true treasure.Well done Gordon.Tony (aka Tiger 1)
