Paul C Posted June 1, 2005 Posted June 1, 2005 Since most of the German officer corp was retired after WWI and they were civilians in 1934 why would they bother to have the Hindenburg medal mounted on their medal bar when they were civilians?
Stogieman Posted June 2, 2005 Posted June 2, 2005 Hi Paul, remember that despite being retired; most of these guys would be active in some type of veteran's organization, fraternal order, etc...... and they would wear their medal bars any (every?) chance they had. There's no shortage of fotos floating about with pictures of civilians wearing full-dress military medal bars, not "frack" bars......Since most of the German officer corp was retired after WWI and they were civilians in 1934 why would they bother to have the Hindenburg medal mounted on their medal bar when they were civilians?←

Guest Rick Research Posted June 2, 2005 Posted June 2, 2005 After the "We Hate Medals" Weimar Republic, the Third Reich's F?hrerprinzip encouraged "Wear Everything You've Got" because it showed who the "leaders" were. A known stereotypical monocled Nazi former officer
Guest Rick Research Posted June 2, 2005 Posted June 2, 2005 Taken at Christmas 1938, a Night At The Opera for this naughty elderly ex-dL officer and (lapel eagle) Nazi Party functionary. Imagine this in january of 1940 with a potential pair of NSDAP Long Services added!
Stogieman Posted June 3, 2005 Posted June 3, 2005 And...... note that his Silesian Eagles are the rather rare variation with swords attached to the eagle's body!
