Guest Rick Research
And that in the days when only eyes and ears served anti-submarine forces! Imagine technological advances the next time around when being unseen was no protection. This reminds me of my various cats staking out a once-fruitful mousey hole...obviously "slim pickings" where he chose to go--or maybe was sent out to not get in the way of other lone submarines?I had never read about Uboats releasing mines DIRECTLY in front of targets before. I had always assumed when mine fields were laid, they were in hopes of catching something.... NOT getting something in sight bearing down--no wonder so many mine laying submarines blew THEMSELVES up!!!!

David Gregory
Barry,That is a fascinating group of documents, which are nicely complemented by the added awards and ephemera.Since it is almost impossible to know if the awards and documents of a given group really belonged together, I also acquire single examples of awards and bars for display purposes to go with the document groups that are my main collecting interest.Your eclectic approach makes for an interesting collection.David
