Bob Hunter Posted June 23, 2005 Posted June 23, 2005 (edited) I confess to being fascinated by the Order of the White Falcon, not only the decoration but also the way it is made. I have only come across one in the past year but I am certain you guys have some very primo examples out there... Edited June 23, 2005 by Bob Hunter
Bob Hunter Posted June 23, 2005 Author Posted June 23, 2005 (edited) It's 'umble I am sir, so this will do nicely for the moment... Edited June 23, 2005 by Bob Hunter
landsknechte Posted June 23, 2005 Posted June 23, 2005 I've got a 1st class, albeit one that looks like it's been run over by a Buick, but a 1st class nonetheless. :coola: An ugly rarity is still a rarity. --Chris
Christian L Posted June 23, 2005 Posted June 23, 2005 An ugly rarity is still a rarity. you are right chris jumping nice medalbar bob - could you please post a close up of the falcon? thanks much in advance christian
Christian L Posted June 23, 2005 Posted June 23, 2005 yes it is - thanks really much not only the feathers are formed also the eye!very detailed and a real kind of craftmenship!christian
Bob Hunter Posted June 23, 2005 Author Posted June 23, 2005 It is nicely done but it does resemble a dove more than a falcon, don't you think?
Stogieman Posted June 23, 2005 Posted June 23, 2005 I agree, much more akin to a dove.... this is also one of my favorites. I've only had 3 2.kl, had one 1.kl. stupidly, I sold it. Probably never see another 1.kl.Believe it or not, a cased Grosskreuz set showed up on Manion's and went for under 5K... the German buyer resold it in Germany and was able to purchase a rather nice automobile for himself on the proceeds....... that should give you an idea as to where these are!
Bob Hunter Posted June 23, 2005 Author Posted June 23, 2005 (edited) That sure makes that 2. kl look pretty good! Edited June 24, 2005 by Bob Hunter
Stogieman Posted June 24, 2005 Posted June 24, 2005 yep, a few years back you could find one on every major German dealer website... not anymore. The word slowly leaked out I think and they just went "poof", off the market. The thing that is never seen is a case for the RK1, RK2.... I had a cased second class, but there was no way of knowing if it was correct or just stuck in there somewhere along the way. Will look for pix tonigh!
Stogieman Posted June 24, 2005 Posted June 24, 2005 Cased White Falcon RK2wX. Black case, no fitted tray, no markings anywhere on the case.
Stogieman Posted June 24, 2005 Posted June 24, 2005 Reverse... the ribbon was correct WF, but in GK width!!! It was used like a lining to the case. Very intrigued by this, I was!
Stogieman Posted June 24, 2005 Posted June 24, 2005 Here's a superb example of the RK1wX in silver gilt, ca 1916-18
Stogieman Posted June 24, 2005 Posted June 24, 2005 Reverse of the RK1wX......... how stupid was I to sell this!
Stogieman Posted June 24, 2005 Posted June 24, 2005 The only other case I ever saw was this RK1....... the price was obscene. It was real gold. I still get moist thinking about it.......
Stogieman Posted June 24, 2005 Posted June 24, 2005 Here's a Second Class example, no swords. Once it was here too!
Bob Hunter Posted June 24, 2005 Author Posted June 24, 2005 I know what you mean. Hindsight is an exact science!
Stogieman Posted June 24, 2005 Posted June 24, 2005 :speechless-smiley-004: As an aside......... kind of depressing scanning through my Saxon archive folder.... you would die if you saw what used to live with me :speechless-smiley-004:
Stogieman Posted June 24, 2005 Posted June 24, 2005 Another viewlater on..... that's a Commander's at the upper left.
Bob Hunter Posted June 25, 2005 Author Posted June 25, 2005 Stuning display! It doesn't look like you've entirely kicked that Saxon thing of yours.
