Chris Boonzaier Posted October 28, 2006 Posted October 28, 2006 Some time after the war many soldiers had these done, they usually had the information copied from the Militaerpass and stamped by some person of trust to confirm the correct entries.I am sure it is not a rule, but I usually see these for Bavarian soldiers, and occasionaly from towns near the bavarian border.... maybe the Northern Germans dont like Kitsch...
Chris Boonzaier Posted October 28, 2006 Author Posted October 28, 2006 The first one obviously has a bavarian flag, but the 2nd and last have Prussian... and are still filled out to bavarians.I pick them up when I see them cheap, dont have place for them on the walls, but they are decorative.BestChris
Guest Rick Research Posted October 28, 2006 Posted October 28, 2006 Kitsch was universally beloved-- these just don't travel well, especially if framed under glass.I have a friend in Hamburg who used to bring these over on his trips, both under glass and once still in the oriuginal mailing tube from the supplier/calligrapher.All lonnnnnnnng gone, pre-computer days.
Chip Posted October 28, 2006 Posted October 28, 2006 I have wanted one of these for years, but the glass and frame thing has dissuaded me. It's the period artwork more than anything that is so attactive. I love the art nouveau and realistic styles of the pre-1920s.Chip
Chris Boonzaier Posted November 16, 2009 Author Posted November 16, 2009 Anyone have any to add? Pretty neat things if you have the space. Unfortunately I dont so they are packed on a shelf :-(
Chris Boonzaier Posted November 17, 2009 Author Posted November 17, 2009 Hi Jens, Nice one! I think the date of his capture must be very researchable! Best Chris
