Guest Rick Research Posted November 7, 2006 Posted November 7, 2006 From left to right:1) MVD Highest School (about which I have NO details). A very nice looking badge, with 4 reverses bearing inscriptionsa) Highest School MVD USSR (1959-1960)b) Highest School MVD RSFSR (1960-62)c) Highest School MOOP RSFSR (1962-66), andd) Highest School (1966-1992). This is that final type.2) Leningrad Highest Political School of the MVD. 1980s?3) Leningrad Highest Political School of the MVD-- obviously for the Class of 1972.4) Leningrad Highest Political School of the MVD. Pinback, while the above 3 are all screwback. 1970s?The Leningrad Highest Political School, per M. A. Rogov's 2004 "Istoriya Nagrad I Znakov V MVD Rossiya (1802-2002)" says that the Leningrad HPS of the MVD was formed in 1944 to train commissars for the GULAG system. A four year school, it apparently later instructed members of the civil police (Militia), Interior Troops, and prisoner convoy formations of the prison system. Badges were first issued in 1971, and Rogov states that each individual faculty (conferring a Diploma as "Jurist") had its own design. The blue and white badge similar to a civilian university badge is shown in that book, as is the 1972 star shaped badge. He shows one very similar to my 4th one above, but the one in the book does not have the center of the shield enamelled green (Border Guards ?) as mine does.I cannot help but think of Inspector Rostnikov's former boss Colonel Snitkonoi, "The Grey Wolfhound" for Badge 1, though the others seem rather more sinister. The huge star shaped badges I have never seen in photographs. Any other police/interior/Gulag school badges out there?
