Chris Boonzaier Posted November 26, 2006 Author Posted November 26, 2006 Would the regt number have changed ??
Jef Posted November 26, 2006 Posted November 26, 2006 Would the regt number have changed ??No, it's still B. R.I.R. 16
Chris Boonzaier Posted November 26, 2006 Author Posted November 26, 2006 No, it's still B. R.I.R. 16No, I meant HIS number. On these tages is it a company or Regt number?
Jef Posted November 26, 2006 Posted November 26, 2006 No, I meant HIS number. On these tages is it a company or Regt number? It seems HIS number on his first EM is 148. When he moved to the 3. Komp. I read 718
Chris Boonzaier Posted November 26, 2006 Author Posted November 26, 2006 But i doubt there are 718 men in a company, even including wartime ersatz.I would bet one of these was not HIS... maybe both ?
Chris Boonzaier Posted November 26, 2006 Author Posted November 26, 2006 I lost site of my original reason for posting....So, if Hitler was in the 3rd company, then my field spade actually belonged to a man in hitlers company !!! it may even have been borrowed by Hitler when he left the trench to go take a dump !!!
Chip Posted November 26, 2006 Posted November 26, 2006 Guys,What would happen when a soldier came back to a regiment after a wound, for instance, and was assigned to another company? Would he get a new disk at that point? The depot muster rolls were continuous, so one would assume that field unit muster numbers were too. So if a man was killed, his number would not be issued to someone else. This is just a guess, but I think it would have been a nightmare to try to reassign numbers and try to keep track of them.Chip
