Richarddwh Posted December 10, 2006 Posted December 10, 2006 A couple of years ago I bought a lot of photos, many were different but a group contained the same man. I would like to piece together some of this man's life by the photos I have, to find out his unit, rank, where he was likely to have served. The photos appear to cover a few years. I would appreciate any help with translation or any information.
Richarddwh Posted December 10, 2006 Author Posted December 10, 2006 A close up of our man, this group shot already had the biro arrow.
Richarddwh Posted December 10, 2006 Author Posted December 10, 2006 (edited) Another later group shot. He sits third fo the left middle row Edited December 10, 2006 by Richarddwh
Richarddwh Posted December 10, 2006 Author Posted December 10, 2006 Looks as though he has somethig on his mind!
Richarddwh Posted December 10, 2006 Author Posted December 10, 2006 This looks to be a few years later with his young lady
Richarddwh Posted December 10, 2006 Author Posted December 10, 2006 A close up of te unit details on the second group photo, does anyone know anything about this regiment?
Richarddwh Posted December 10, 2006 Author Posted December 10, 2006 (edited) A nice uniform shot, I think he has a two place ribbon bar, possiby a October 1st medal on the right, and a 4 year long service on the right. Edited December 10, 2006 by Richarddwh
Richarddwh Posted December 10, 2006 Author Posted December 10, 2006 (edited) With another lady! He sits on the right Edited December 10, 2006 by Richarddwh
Richarddwh Posted December 10, 2006 Author Posted December 10, 2006 The reverse, I would be interested in finding out what is written on the reverse
Richarddwh Posted December 10, 2006 Author Posted December 10, 2006 On the back of one of the groups photos I have for him, it looks as though he started to collect signatures.
Richarddwh Posted December 15, 2006 Author Posted December 15, 2006 After going through some more photos I discovered some more of him. Here the photo, dated 1.6.40 shows him with his recently awarded EKII, and the ribbon bar is clearer showing the 4year service and Sudetenland ribbon bar. Based on the brief synopsis I read of IR 76, he would have been likely to have won his EK in France or the Low countries. I assume he may have been sent East to the Ukraine in 1941. The writing on the reverse of one of the earlier photos shown above is the last dated photo 1941 that I have of him, if anyone could translate it I would be very appreciative.
Richarddwh Posted December 15, 2006 Author Posted December 15, 2006 You wouldn't know it but the guy to his right does a great drunken Napoleon impression.
Paul R Posted December 15, 2006 Posted December 15, 2006 I cant help you with any information, but I have to say that you have a hard to beat set of photos. I hope that someone will be able to give you some more background information.
