Naxos Posted December 25, 2006 Posted December 25, 2006 I never seen this type beforehttp://cgi.ebay.de/1-WK-2-Stueck-orig-Flug...1QQcmdZViewItemAll the Best of the season, Hardy
Stogieman Posted December 26, 2006 Posted December 26, 2006 Both badges are real by a yet undetermined maker. But his asking price is very, very high for the pair.
Luftmensch Posted December 26, 2006 Posted December 26, 2006 I dunno...about $900 each...30% less if not for our policy of letting our currency tank...
Weseruebung Posted December 26, 2006 Posted December 26, 2006 I also think they are very expensive. Chris
Luftmensch Posted December 26, 2006 Posted December 26, 2006 Your opinion is also noted, Chris! But look at the prices of REAL run-of-the-mill Juncker pilots on any dealer's site and explain why a rare maker should not command some premium! Otherwise, allow me to add my name to yours on the list of those who would like to build a collection of real badges and pay wholesale!Rgds
Stogieman Posted December 26, 2006 Posted December 26, 2006 Hi John, rare maker, or not... a lack of collector demand will keep the price of these badges lower than Juncker. The real issue is the Prinzen piece. Collectors, for a variety of reasons, appear to fail to place a premium value on a premium, rare piece...
Stogieman Posted December 26, 2006 Posted December 26, 2006 PS, about the third or fourth time he has listed these for sale, on a variety of auction sites in both Europe and the US, with no takers. I would agree, the full-size badge is about $900, actually a bit higher to me as this maker is tough to find.... but the Prinzen? As a seller of these, I can assure you i have never found anyone will ing to pay $900 for a Prinzen pilot by any maker...
Luftmensch Posted December 26, 2006 Posted December 26, 2006 Hi, Rick. I have noticed that in our field. Most flying badges are owned by guys who have one or two and then a lot of other badges of other nationalities. So for their Prussian pilot they want a textbook example of the most representative type. I've always been attracted to the one nobody else has! As for the Prinzen, it might even be harder to find with these marks, but I think I'm thinking like a coin collector!Rgds
Stogieman Posted January 30, 2007 Posted January 30, 2007 I will say this... If I was actively collecting Imperial Aviation still, I would have snatched the pair. You are right, the Prinzen variation is quite rare. After searching my archive photos, it's not an example I've recorded before this one surfaced. For the student, a must.
