TerryG Posted January 13, 2007 Posted January 13, 2007 Can you please post photos of your screwback EK1 with the case?I have just received such a set but am not too happy with it and would like to compare with others before deciding if I should return it. The case I have here has a 3.5cm diameter recess for the backing plate but the cross came with a plate much smaller than that. How easy would it be to find a spare backing plate? I will post photos later when there is enough light.....or rather if there is enough light today.

TerryG Posted January 13, 2007 Author Posted January 13, 2007 The backing plate is clearly too small for the recess
TerryG Posted January 13, 2007 Author Posted January 13, 2007 The small nut has some markings but they have been worn away and I cannot make sense of them
TerryG Posted January 13, 2007 Author Posted January 13, 2007 Last one. Let's have your comments and please post photos of your own cased screwback crosses.
TerryG Posted January 13, 2007 Author Posted January 13, 2007 Terry. The case is void of markings?Nothing at all but I cannot take the inside base out to check there.
Stogieman Posted January 13, 2007 Posted January 13, 2007 Hi Terry, this is the one from eBay Germany? I think the cross is legit, the case looks like it may have been adapted to the cross, but clearly it's been that way for awhile. The case hardware is typical 1920-1940.
TerryG Posted January 13, 2007 Author Posted January 13, 2007 Thanks for the comments so far. Keep them coming. Do I look for a different backing plate or not? How easy are they to come by?
Stogieman Posted January 13, 2007 Posted January 13, 2007 Hi Terry, I think this depends on price. The backing plate looks period, so while it once had a larger one, this one works as well. If you paid a fair price for the set, I'd keep it as the case is truly the hardest part to acquire..
DavidM Posted January 13, 2007 Posted January 13, 2007 HelloI like it and think that the cross is good, and that the backing plate etc looks fine. Why bother changing it? It looks period and is a nice, unusual item. Just my opinion, but I would leave it as it is.
Motorhead Posted January 14, 2007 Posted January 14, 2007 Terry, could you post a good pic of the obverse? About the case I agree with Rick-it could be a jewelers case for medals ect.....Micha
TerryG Posted January 14, 2007 Author Posted January 14, 2007 That's all I have right now and it is getting dark out there. Something bothering you? Obviously the plate does not match the case recess and I do not believe that I will easily find a different plate so I think I will return it....
