    Hallo Chris,

I picked up this picture in Brasov, Centeral Romania last week, its dated Cluj 1 IV 1927, (Cluj-Napoca) it shows a group of Romanian Soldiers with what I believe to be a Maxim, can you id it for sure??

If it is a Maxim its probably a WW1, captured stock from either the Germans, Austrians or Bulgarians.

Interestingly none of the soldiers sport any ribbons for WW1 service.

Maybe they were new conscripts for 1927 who did not see service in WWI.

    Hallo Carol I,

thanks for your comments, not knowing to much about Romanian uniforms are they all conscripts or any instructors amongst them?? The three in front seem to have nice white shirts or scarves, They are all very smartly turned out in the picture.

I could not see any rank insignia (on the three in front at least) so I concluded they were only privates.

I am curious why this picture was taken. I do not think that it is a simple snapshot, so I guess the people prepared in advance for the photo (this is why they seem freshly spruced up). But was it for a demonstration of the machine gun (with the occasion of an inspection maybe)? Was it only a martial memento of their war service?

Can you do a clearer scan of the gun?

The tripod looks like the ones that are coming surplas from Turkey...

    More pics for you Chris,
