Ralph A Posted August 13, 2005 Author Posted August 13, 2005 I like to acquire series, and blocks (w/gutters)... but I am less even than an amateur philatelist. I got most of my stamps from a gentleman in Canada named Heinz Paryas - a certified dealer, and a friend. He is Croatian, and his father perished at Stalingrad.
Ralph A Posted August 13, 2005 Author Posted August 13, 2005 Heinz sent me this set as a gift! Poignant...
Ralph A Posted August 13, 2005 Author Posted August 13, 2005 He got rich off these - he earned a minuscule royalty for each one sold:
Ralph A Posted August 13, 2005 Author Posted August 13, 2005 Four types of Feldpost stamps. If you could find the blue one cancelled on a bit of parcel wrapper, you would have something worth several thousands of dollars.
Ralph A Posted August 13, 2005 Author Posted August 13, 2005 These were meant to come from a vending machine:
Ralph A Posted August 13, 2005 Author Posted August 13, 2005 Another rarity. What keeps this from being outrageously expensive (and out of my reach) is the fact that on the stamp to the extreme left, the perforation bites into the artwork.
Ralph A Posted August 13, 2005 Author Posted August 13, 2005 More vending machine stamps. These are known as "Hitler Heads."
Ralph A Posted August 13, 2005 Author Posted August 13, 2005 "Culture-donation" stamp. It carried a surcharge; a donation to the Arts. Note the '37 Parteitag designation.
Ralph A Posted August 13, 2005 Author Posted August 13, 2005 One cannot fully comprehend the seed-ground for National Socialism in Germany, without contemplating this $50,000,000,000 "inflation" stamp:
Ralph A Posted August 13, 2005 Author Posted August 13, 2005 More WHW. Notable structures. I would assume these carry a surcharge for a "donation." (The "+" part?)
Ralph A Posted August 13, 2005 Author Posted August 13, 2005 A cancel. Not often does one see the term "Sudetendeutschland."
Ralph A Posted August 13, 2005 Author Posted August 13, 2005 (edited) Another cancel: Edited August 13, 2005 by Ralph A
Ralph A Posted August 13, 2005 Author Posted August 13, 2005 These are a series, sold (I believe) for Winter Relief. They were issued twice; I believe in '41 and '43. The art was different for the two series. I'll post seven of the series of 12, from 1943 (I think). They are amongst my favorite stamps - great art! Note the artist's names on some of them. Sit back, and enjoy...
Ralph A Posted August 13, 2005 Author Posted August 13, 2005 I think this is supposed to be U-boat captain Kretschmer.
Ralph A Posted August 13, 2005 Author Posted August 13, 2005 I'm mixing different years' series, now. But it's the art I want to share. Just fantastic. Evocative.
