Scowen Posted August 25, 2005 Posted August 25, 2005 Never given these much thought before, but came across these while in Munich & thought "why not"....CheersDon
Laurence Strong Posted August 25, 2005 Posted August 25, 2005 This is how I used one of them. I have a couple more and would be interested in trading for a couple different denominations.
Guest Rick Research Posted August 25, 2005 Posted August 25, 2005 I'm surprised there are many Third Reich notes even around--these were (for lack of anything else) still around for some years AFTER the war as legal currency (I wonder if they used up all those Hitler postage stamps as well! ) but some time in 1948, I think it was, ALL the old Reichs Marks were supposed to be turned in, exchanged for the new Deutsch Marks. After the cut off date, old notes were worthless. In those hard years, I can't imagine anybody keeping these as souvenirs when every Pfennig counted, but you got yours in Gerrmany at a flea market, which meant somebody saved them for SOME reason worth depriving themselves of "real" money for food. My greatuncles all came back with the 5 RM notes, which must have been the most common pocket change. Collectively, my family must certainly rate as among the WORST souvenir scroungers to have ever lived, at least as far as carrying off anything that to this day is "worth" anything!
