Several web sites provide complete information--search/Google Order of St. John of Jerusalem/Order of Malta, and similar, will reveal more than you probably want to know. paul wood Posted August 14, 2007 Posted August 14, 2007 Hi,I would to know if someone can identify this medal as well provide me some kind of information regarding its history.ThanksDouglasIt is a Knight of Grace and Devotionis badge of the Sovereign Military Hospitaler Order of St John of Jerusalem, of Rhodes and Malta. usually called the Order of Malta. The Order was established in Jerusalem in the 11th century and provided care of sick and needy pilgrims. It is still a widely given order and is bestowed by the Order's base in Rome. The type you have is the most widely awarded type, given to those who have not taken monastic vows. The type given to those who have taken such vows are called Knights of Justice. Your example appears to be of the early part of the 20th century.Hope this is of help,Paul
