Black Watch Group

This group belongs to a friends dad. According to him it actually stopped the Queen Mother when reviewing a parade he was in to ask what a man in the Black Watch was doing with the Atlantic Star. He started off life in the Merchant Navy and was then conscripted to the Black Watch.

It's a nice group and story.

a silly question... I would have thought a Merchant nay man was exempt from call ?

Second question... was he called up in or after the war? if in the war, where did he then serve?

Must be a group with half a dozen interesting things to know about it...

Could you ask your friends dad if he has some info about a town the Black Watch liberated in Holland? It is a town called Heythuysen nowadays. During the war it was called Heithuijsen and Heijthuijsen. It is in the province of Limburg between the larger places Roermond and Weert close to the Meuse ( Maas ) River.
