    Obscure Regimental Commander Portraits

    Recommended Posts

    Guest Rick Research

Taken in 1906, the year he went zD as an Oberst (not sure which regiment), Anton Manz was born in 1857

    SecLt 23.11.77

    PremLt 31.10.88

    Rittmeister 24.10.93

    Major 24.10.00

    Oberstleutnant ? (!)

    Oberst zD 12.10.06 (!!!)

    Awards are

Bavarian Military Merit Order 4th Class (BMV4b of the pre-1905 no-flames type)

Bavarian Army 1905 Luitpold Jubilee Medal

Prussian Red Eagle Order 4th Class

    Prussian Crown Order 3rd Class

Saxe-Weimar Order of the White Falcon-Knight 1st Class (I believe without diamond shapes between arms = pre-1902)

Bavarian XXIV Years Service Cross (pre-1906 type in chocolate bronze)

Austro-Hungarian Order of the Iron Crown 3rd Class

Apparently no WW1 service, though he was alive in 1914. He received the Officer's Cross class BMV obviously as a retirement award, which is shown along with his BMV4b in Bavarian Military Handbooks after his retirement. Having missed out on a 3rd Class, he apparently could wear BOTH.

From the collection of the late Tony Colson.

    Hi,

That is a really nice pre war rack. It's hard to believe he missed out on everything, i.e. China, SWA, not even recalled to WWI. Is there any information on his post military career ? He lived a looooooong time after retirement (97!!!). Hopefully all the regime changes this guy lived through continued to pay his pension and his descendents still have that nice bar.
