During the Great Patriotic War Filshin proved himself as a brave intelligence officer. During the offensive operations of the brigade in August 4, 1942 showed himself a courageous officer and displayed bravery and heroism. During a military mission near Boldarevo village in German army rear he correctly determined fire units of the enemy, their position and the number of the fascists. This information gave the possibility to the gunners put down aimed fire and annihilated several fire units of the enemy, troops, and move our infantry forward. When our intelligence officers were found out by fascists near Boldarevo and attacked, Filshin bravely leaded soldiers straight ahead and owing his courage, enemy's machine-gun post was destroyed, more than 15 German soldiers were killed in the western suburbs of Boldarevo. Having found out enemy defensive lines our squad consisting of five soldiers withdrew without casualties disorganizing enemy defence. The squad leaded by Filshin killed up to 20 German soldiers near Zubtsovo-Kargasheno and Chichakovo villages. They captured Zubovo village, organized the crossing over the river, which fascists wanted to blow up. Guest Rick Research Posted December 25, 2007 Posted December 25, 2007 That's GREAT! Usually these place names are just a total mystery-- that gives a great idea of the topography and how lines must have run along the rivers.

Usually these place names are just a total mystery-- that gives a great idea of the topography and how lines must have run along the rivers.Rick you are right. Zubtsov is not the big town in the map as I thought. It is a little more than a homestead with a few buildings. Here is the place were Senior Sergeant Filshin crossed the river. Even on this detailed map I was not able to find all thenames of the villages.in the red circle:1. Chichakovo village2. Kargasheno3. Zubovo villageThat seems to be the reason why place names are just a total mystery - They are tooooo small.
