am I right in the assumption that this soldier is a member of Feldflieger-Abteilung 43 transfered from Fliegerersatz-Abteilung 1

would ground personnel wear this uniform as well, or is he a Flieger/Beobachter/Sch?tze who hasn't earned his Abzeichen yet?

He could be any kind ground worker, mechanic (Monteur), staff typist, but not flying personnel. His rank is too low. They German airforce dipped all the way down to Unteroffizier for flying personnel, but I can't recall ever hearing of a Gemeiner getting off of the ground.

usually thats right. But there were also "Gefreiter" (private) as pilot. He could be also an pilot or gunner but probable he isn`t.
