Gordon Williamson Posted February 3, 2008 Posted February 3, 2008 Laurens very fine Destroyer badge just made me think. We can find lots of tombak KM badges witha lot of original finish still remaining, but zinkers with the original gilding are very hard to find.Lets see what we have in terms of these mid-late war badges, o.k. maybe not "minty" but at least with most of the original finish intact. Here's a recent addition, a nice RS&S Fleet Badge with most of the gilt still there.
Gordon Williamson Posted February 3, 2008 Author Posted February 3, 2008 My old First Pattern U-Frontspange which now lives with Marcus H. Almost impossible to find a zinker with this level of original finish intact.
Erik Krogh Posted February 5, 2008 Posted February 5, 2008 Here's my "minty" RK zinc Minesweeper. Of interest on this badge is the water, which retains almost all of its dark character.
Martin W Posted February 5, 2008 Posted February 5, 2008 (edited) This has to be one of the nicest zincers i have.A Schwerin Blockade Breaker. The highlights are frosted and the swastika is highly polished. The scans do not do it justice.Regards,Martin. Edited February 5, 2008 by mwestley
Martin W Posted February 5, 2008 Posted February 5, 2008 Not quite"minty" but this zinc Schwerin HSF badge has a lot of its original finish.Regards,Martin.
Martin W Posted February 5, 2008 Posted February 5, 2008 My favorite zincer,a Schwerin Auxiliary Cruiser.
Erik Krogh Posted February 5, 2008 Posted February 5, 2008 Although the finishes are not nearly as perfect as Gordon's former First Pattern U-Boat Spange, these still retain a substantial amount of finish.
Martin W Posted February 5, 2008 Posted February 5, 2008 Great looking clasps Eric. Two additions i still have to add to my collection.Regards,Martin.
Erik Krogh Posted February 5, 2008 Posted February 5, 2008 Thanks, Martin! Love your Schwerin Aux Cruiser, too.All The Best,ErikGreat looking clasps Eric. Two additions i still have to add to my collection.Regards,Martin.
Gordon Williamson Posted February 5, 2008 Author Posted February 5, 2008 Lovely pieces guys !Here's one of the awards its easier to find in super condition than most zinkers. The AS 2nd Pattern S-Boot.
Gordon Williamson Posted February 5, 2008 Author Posted February 5, 2008 And Souval's version of the same badge
Gordon Williamson Posted February 5, 2008 Author Posted February 5, 2008 Anoter extra-nice Blockade Breaker in zink. This one was awarded to a Merchant Navy captain who commanded a fleet auxiliary tanker during the invasion of Norway.
Gordon Williamson Posted February 5, 2008 Author Posted February 5, 2008 L/13 U-Boat in Zinc with all finish intact
Martin W Posted February 5, 2008 Posted February 5, 2008 Some more great lookers Gordon. The AS S-Boot is as one would expect from this maker, they really hold their finish well, but the Souval is just superb. Here is another Aux.Cruiser in fairly good condition and is unmarked.Regards,Martin.
Erik Krogh Posted February 6, 2008 Posted February 6, 2008 Wow, this thread just keeps getting better! Here is my Baqueville U-Boat badge. It has a lot of its finish remaining, but sad to say that this bird probably didn't get too many dates
Gordon Williamson Posted February 6, 2008 Author Posted February 6, 2008 sad to say that this bird probably didn't get too many dates Here's the Bacqueville I had. It lives with Jan Arne now. Don't know about not getting many dates. May not been taken out much, but look at the Schwerin U-Boat Bird, ugly as sin and everyone wants her.
Gordon Williamson Posted February 6, 2008 Author Posted February 6, 2008 Not the best ever FLL Marine Artillery these often turn up in really good condition too, but still a nice level of finish remaining.
Martin W Posted February 6, 2008 Posted February 6, 2008 More great looking zincers guys.Gordon another nice looking Souval, love that Aux.Cruiser.Regards,Martin.
RichardT Posted February 6, 2008 Posted February 6, 2008 My FLL Coastal Artillery, not mint but very nice.Richard
RichardT Posted February 6, 2008 Posted February 6, 2008 My 2nd Pattern E-boat, by Souval, with most finish still intact. Sorry picture is a bit "glarey".Richard
RichardT Posted February 6, 2008 Posted February 6, 2008 My 1st Pattern Bacqueville E-boat with most of finish still intact. Bacqueville badges didn't seem to retain their finishes very well so this is a nice one.Richard
Gordon Williamson Posted February 6, 2008 Author Posted February 6, 2008 My Bacqueville Auxiliary Cruiser, gilding pretty much intact apart from some rubbing to the longship's sail
Erik Krogh Posted February 6, 2008 Posted February 6, 2008 Here's the Bacqueville I had. It lives with Jan Arne now. Don't know about not getting many dates. Gordon,It appears that, as often happens in real life, unattractive physical deficits are overcome by glitzy (in this case fire-gilded) clothing. Erik
RichardT Posted February 6, 2008 Posted February 6, 2008 My Bacqueville Auxiliary Cruiser, gilding pretty much intact apart from some rubbing to the longship's sailNice Cruiser Gordon. Mine has only 5-10% gilding left.Richard
