Hi guys,I picked up this Unterseebootesbegleitschiff Erwin Wassner cap tally with some others recently. As you can see it is very different to the one shown by Gordon in his thread 'two steps closer'and seems a bit 'glitzy' or bright if you see what I mean. So,is it correct,eg a manufacturers variation, and is it a period piece?Any help will be appreciated, cheers,

    Paul

Paul your latest acquirements were from Weitze possibly ? I am proposing that the latest may have been the gold gilt thread faded but Gordon and John should give their input on this one as I am fairly new to the collecting of the KM bands myself. Mine are all the Gilt wire, several of them faded to the interesting darker copper and green tones.

if I understand correctly the gilt wire may have been private purchase and as well pre-war and that the yellow cellon and cotton pieces were war issuant ?

    No worries Paul.

This is, I believe, a perfectly legitimate manufacturers variant.

The same thing existed with the Tenders but in reverse. Usually "Unterseebootstender.........." in full but in at least one case the ribbon is known with the alternative "U=Bootstender..........."

Thanks for the replies guys, that particular tally was bugging me a little but the others in the same batch seem fine so I'll have that down as a variant, thanks again,
