Gordon Williamson Posted May 23, 2008 Share Posted May 23, 2008 Perfectly legitimate, original badge, but without a definitive maker mark, I don't think it is possible to say with absolute certainty which of the three known makers who used this style ( Mayer, Zimmermann or Schickle) this comes from. It may even be a fourth, so far unidentified maker. In Zimmermann we'd normally expect all four arms of the swastika to be cut, but who knows - the fourth may have had to be left solid on zinc versions for added strength on the much more brittle metal. Likewise the distinctive hinge type used on Schickle tombak badges would not have been any good on zinc - not enough surface contact between the hinge and the badge, so they could have used the style shown here on zinc pieces.Bottom line is -they are genuine but we don't know for sure who made them.
