Michael Johnson Posted October 1, 2008 Posted October 1, 2008 Very nice. The uniforms do indeed look like the period Canadian bush jacket and pants.
TANK Posted October 1, 2008 Posted October 1, 2008 It's the first type of UN badge - Emergency force. Sebastian got a better picture.
sebastian Posted October 2, 2008 Author Posted October 2, 2008 Tank, can you show us a photo of under side of visor cap? Are there any markings on it?Thanks in advance.
TANK Posted October 6, 2008 Posted October 6, 2008 Yes, there is a small label with some markings:REG.NO.UK SO/HQ/8605 SIZE 7
Yildirim Posted October 7, 2008 Posted October 7, 2008 Congratulations, fantastic pictures!!Tank, do you probably know where could I find the list with names of all Yugoslav soldiers who were in UNEF mission (mainly I'm interested on air forces)?
Michael Johnson Posted October 7, 2008 Posted October 7, 2008 Yilderim, I'm not sure that the Yugoslavian Air Force provided any personnel. Air support for both the UNEF and UNYOM missions was provided by the Royal Canadian Air Force - DHC Otters, Dakotas, and later the DHC Caribou.
TANK Posted October 14, 2008 Posted October 14, 2008 I must agree with Michael, no air force on the misions just army. Yilderim, I don't know for such a list, sorry.
Yildirim Posted October 14, 2008 Posted October 14, 2008 OK, thanks to both of You. I thought that Yugoslav air forces were there too, but obviously I'm wrong
SasaYU Posted November 19, 2009 Posted November 19, 2009 (edited) Some pictures of the mission of Yugoslavia i have found: Edited November 19, 2009 by SasaYU
theairbornebrat Posted December 8, 2012 Posted December 8, 2012 Two UNEF medals, which are still mistery for me. I will be thankfull for any information about them.IMG_3918.JPG Hi, these are not UNEF medals, probably replicas, as all UN medals have "IN THE SERVICE OF PEACE' inscribed on the back.
theairbornebrat Posted December 8, 2012 Posted December 8, 2012 Again- i learned something very new here. Thanks for posting. I had no idea that Yugoslavia had been so active in the Un peacekeeping operations. There's quite a bit about them in the UN sites. Yugoslav soldiers arriving in the Siani on May 8, 1961. The Yugoslav troops were with the UNEF since its inception in 1956. My father was with the force between 1957 and 1959 with the Indian contingent and I have photographs of him with some Colombian and Yugoslav officers at that time and he states that they were present with the first Indian contingent who had arrived in 1956.
theairbornebrat Posted December 8, 2012 Posted December 8, 2012 Some UNEF pins. These pins were presented to soldiers who took part in UNEF mission. There are different dates on these badges. These dates indicate year when the soldier served in the mission. On my pins there are the following dates: 1959, 1960, 1962, 1963, 1964, 1965 and 1967.IMG_3921.JPG I possess the one with 1956-1960 inscribed on it..... gifted to my father who was with 1 Para Battalion of the second Indian contingent by his Yugoslav friends in the UNEF.
sebastian Posted December 9, 2012 Author Posted December 9, 2012 These medalions are realy not medals. As Gordon Craig and Kevin in Deva have alredy said, they are mementos or souvenirs. In mean time I have found out that these medalions are part of keychains. Here in the following picture you can see how such keychain looks
SasaYU Posted January 7, 2013 Posted January 7, 2013 Participation of JNA (Armed forces of Yugoslavia) in UN peacekeeping operations: UNEF I (1956-1967) UNYOM (1963-1964) UNIMOG (1988-1991) UNTAG (1989-1990) NABEM (1989-1991)
