"Vivid" is an understatement for this design. Just in from Kev today, from the volcanic dome of Deva to the swamps of The Island.

This must be derived from the much more... dignified... M1955 Soviet version. Since it is a screwback rather than a pinback, I am guessing this dates from the late 1950s or early 1960s?

The particular version of the badge shown is actually post-1965... the seal is for the Romanian Socialist Republic. The earlier version will have the red star with RPR on a blue circle (Romanian Peoples' Republic). The damn things look like dragonflys to me.

I know that I'm "going against the grain" on this one but, setting aside the fact that the RPR's are definitely more valuable, I just like the RSR's more. The larger, rounder "inner wings", the fact that the headphones have become almost unrecognizable and the use of fluorescent yellow (in a military badge) just does it for me... kind of a "Galaxy Quest" (one of my favorite movies- if that tells you something) kinda thing. If I ever latch on to one of these, I'm wearing it at the next convention!
