fjcp Posted August 30, 2008 Posted August 30, 2008 I just got this from an old friend in Mexico.. He lived in Hilversum during the war and this is one of the many things he picked up then...Anyway this is what I "know"The Armband is from the Ordedienst, a resistance movement that consisted mostly of former/defeated soldiers... They must have annoyed the germans because 107 members were executed in May 1942.The armband has stamps on it with the coat of arms of Amsterdam with the words "Amsterdam" at the bottom and "waarmerk stempel"The last one meaning +/- "authenticity stamp".Any info about the piece would be great...Thanks.JC
leigh kitchen Posted August 30, 2008 Posted August 30, 2008 (edited) I bought something similar some while ago, similar construction, printed on thin cotton, much the same as yours except the lettering is different, the tail of the "J" dropping down below the others, & the ink stamp is a square containing a lion. I don't know if it's good or bad & can't show photos as my main box is away for a new hard drive. Edited August 30, 2008 by leigh kitchen
fjcp Posted August 30, 2008 Author Posted August 30, 2008 HI Leigh,I'd be interested to see yours to compare at some point...One thing I am sure of, and that is the provenance....JC
ksc Posted November 9, 2009 Posted November 9, 2009 armband worn by " dutch resistance " members after 4/5 may 1945 they are all local made even printed on a white pieces of cloth mostly common is this type and the orange type. every city or village had other seals/stamps on it,very nice to collect become rare these days. Sorry to say but during the war there was not so much resistance action in the netherlands(exept if you read the current re -written history books) and we all listen very well to our new lords and delivered the most volunteers of whole europe for the waffen ss or other services in the german army. On a nation of 8/9.000 000 people more than 2 000 000 joined the germans and not spoken of the dutch who support them not openly but on a secert way of donation goods or money. We even helped our new lords to give all dutch citizens an id card with photo and fingerprints and marked the jews with a J in it. And after germany lost the war the whole nation was filled with resistance units,of course there was some active fights against german forces but not in the way as in the rest of europe.
