Richard Gordon Posted October 3, 2008 Posted October 3, 2008 While unmarked, I assume this is a Meybaure from the pin shape. Could anyone confirm if I'm right or correct me if wrong. The only marking is silver '950'.Here's a few pics. There's a light application of ruct on the high-points. Any suggestions on how to neutralise it?Rich
Eric Stahlhut Posted October 3, 2008 Posted October 3, 2008 (edited) greetings, richardyou know, i have the same cross (albeit with repaired catch), and have always wondered the same thing. one one hand, the trademark upper portion of the pin near the hinge doesn't 'flair out' as much as on other meybauer pieces i own.on the other hand, the core is pretty much the same as my flat meybauer-marked example.?There's a light application of rust on the high-points. Any suggestions on how to neutralise it?Richthis is the easy question to answer: Boshield T-9 ! works great, and is relatively inexpensive. please take a look at the pertinent thread over in the 1939 section. Mike K Posted October 4, 2008 Posted October 4, 2008 Imo yes, this is a Meybauer. The core is one of the Meyabuer variants but the pin is classic imo earlier Meybauer and the high 950 mark is found on other Meybauers.RegardsMike
Richard Gordon Posted October 4, 2008 Author Posted October 4, 2008 Eric/MikeMany thanks for taking the time to reply and offer your thoughts. I had a quick search for this "Boeshield T-9" and couldn't see any UK stockists but it does seem to be available on ebay. I'll check out the thread on it first though.Rich
Eric Stahlhut Posted October 4, 2008 Posted October 4, 2008 (edited) unmarked, but prolly an early meybauer as well. the hinge/pin is magnificently put together. no wiggle. very tight. Edited October 4, 2008 by Eric Stahlhut
