brianc Posted November 3, 2008 Posted November 3, 2008 Are there any persons with an interest in the Republicans and their cause in here? Didn't they issue awards too?
Ed_Haynes Posted November 3, 2008 Posted November 3, 2008 Yes, I (for one) have a great interest in them. But I fear there aren't many like us, with most of the interest lying with the fascists. If you look around, I think you'll find a few threads of interest.
brianc Posted November 3, 2008 Author Posted November 3, 2008 a kindred spirit!...I note there are limited threads indeed. I have a particular interest in medals, awards etc and found the thread on the International Brigades interesting. I am a novice and hope some 'Republicans' surface and maybe show some decorations? Scott Posted November 3, 2008 Posted November 3, 2008 Here's a good thread on Nationalist volunteers from a while back... http://gmic.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=1245&hl=republican

Didn't they issue awards too?I have interest in their cause, my granfather fought within a Republican unit and cross the border later in the war while the whole family was in a so-called refugies camp. I was too young when he died to know more about its combats and awards. don't think he got medals, stay in live was the most coveted award !jacques

It just seems that there is much interest in the German involvement but not much about the Republic and its fight against facism.

Don't forget that Franco government remained until his death. I don't think that the former republican fighters were wellcome during his regency. I guess few badges were awarded to them, try to find a threat among these files.regardsjacques
Scott Posted November 5, 2008 Posted November 5, 2008 What was the award period of the 'Spanish Order of the Republic' shown above? Was it something the Republican government awarded their officers during the SCW? Thanks.
Carol I Posted November 5, 2008 Posted November 5, 2008 What was the award period of the 'Spanish Order of the Republic' shown above? Was it something the Republican government awarded their officers during the SCW?It was described as an award of the Second Spanish Republic that lasted nominally until 1939. So theoretically it could have been awarded during the Spanish Civil War. Practically though...
Scott Posted November 6, 2008 Posted November 6, 2008 (edited) Here's one I haven't seen before (it's not mine)... Does any one have any background information on it? Edited November 6, 2008 by Scott
tiggrrr Posted November 12, 2008 Posted November 12, 2008 In response to the post by Brian C. My father (an Irishman) fought for the Republican cause in the SCW and I have a book titled 'The XV International Brigade' whch shows a photograph of him with a group of comrades. As part of my family history research I have been trying to find out more about his involvement in Spain but to little avail so far. My current interest is in the medals that were awarded fo the volunteers of which there are many about, but not all it would seem are genuine.
