    I believe the award for the two policemen to have been a grade of the Bundesverdienstkreuz

    and not a German Military award as pictured above, of course I stand open to correction.

    Kevin,

    the Bundesverdienstkreuz is a civilian award for exemplary service for the Federal Republic in politics, economy education and so on

    Hallo Hardy, is it not possible to have been awarded to the British policemen?

    It seems to have a grades issuable to foreigners.

    With PC Wilkin on motorcycle escort duty rode deliberately into path of oncoming vehicle whilst escorting President of Germany on State visit in Banstead en route to Gatwick Airport.

    The Bundesverdienstkreuz has eight classes, in ascending order:

    * Verdienstmedaille (Medal of Merit)

    * Verdienstkreuz am Bande (Cross of Merit on ribbon)

    o international: Ritterkreuz (Knight's Cross)

    * Verdienstkreuz 1. Klasse (Cross of Merit, First class)

    o international: Offizierkreuz (Officer's Cross)

    * Gro?es Verdienstkreuz (Halskreuz) (Great Cross of Merit, neck cross)

    o international: Komturkreuz (Commander's Cross)

    * Gro?es Verdienstkreuz mit Stern (Great Cross of Merit with star)

    o international: Gro?offizierkreuz (Great Officer's Cross)

    * Gro?es Verdienstkreuz mit Stern und Schulterband (Great Cross of Merit with Star and shoulder ribbon)

    o international: Gro?kreuz 2. Klasse (Grand Cross of Merit, Second class) oder Gro?komturkreuz (Grand Commander's Cross)

    * Gro?kreuz (Grand Cross)

    * Sonderstufe des Gro?kreuzes (Special class of the Grand Cross)

    The President of the Federal Republic holds the Sonderstufe des Gro?kreuzes ex officio. It is awarded to him in a ceremony by the President of the Bundestag attended by the Chancellor, the President of the Bundesrat and the President of the Bundesverfassungsgericht. Other than the President of the Federal Republic, only a foreign head of state can be awarded with the highest class. The Gro?kreuze can also be given in a special rare design. Only two people have had this award, Konrad Adenauer and Helmut Kohl.

    Reading the actions that lead to the award of the crosses - I'm not sure anymore - yes I agree Kevin it could have been the Bundesverdienstkreuz :cheers:
