FireMedals
I am trying to find out if Poland issued any service award specificially for the military personnel who served in the United Nations forces in Lebanon. I know they would have received the UNIFIL Medal, but I can't find any reference to any award or recognition with a Polish medal. Does such an award exist?I'd appreciate any information anyone can provide. Thanks,FireMedals
Kev in Deva
Hallo FireMedals, I have seen Irish, Austrian and Dutch medals for service in the UN, as opposed to specifically in UN service in Lebanon, the Italian Military issued a specific medal for Lebanon as wellbut as yet have not encountered a Polish medal.Kevin in Deva (ex 46th Irish Bn U.N.I.F.I.L.) Lukasz Gaszewski
Polish authorities have been quite recluctant to establish new medals. The only two commemorative medals for post-WWII service abroad (not including the semiofficial Multinational Division Central-South Commemorative Medal) are the Afghanistan Star and Iraq Star, established last year. A mild proposal of a third, Yugoslavia Star, for service in the former Yugoslavia under UN was turned down in the course of legislative work. No other commemorative award for service under UN has ever been considered.Sorry to disappoint you. Lukasz
