Noor Posted November 22, 2008 Posted November 22, 2008 Hi,Yesterday I picked up this medal from rubish market and I didn't found any information from Medal Yearbook about it. Also researching British medals on internet didn't give me the answer.... so, what it is and what kind a ribbon I have to find?
Ed_Haynes Posted November 22, 2008 Posted November 22, 2008 A memorial medal for Queen Victoria, obviously. I'm pretty sure it came from the Army Temperance Association, but right now I have mislaid that very nice booklet done through the OMRS on these confusing temperance awards. Let me look.
Riley1965 Posted November 22, 2008 Posted November 22, 2008 That's a VERY interesting medal!!! I, too, would like to know more about it. Doc
Noor Posted November 22, 2008 Author Posted November 22, 2008 Thanks Ed, just some how I wasn't able to find anything about it . What mainly chatch my eye was... Empress of India, so I was thinking was there some bigger link with India as well with this award.
Taz Posted November 22, 2008 Posted November 22, 2008 There is a book published on this subject that may interest youA Guide to Military Temperance Medals of the British Army and Royal Navy; by David A. Harris. 2nd Edition, many additions, 8 x 10", 128 Pages. Excellent reference book for the medal collector. Ribbons in colour centrepages. An indispensable Reference Guide for collectors & dealers.
leigh kitchen Posted November 23, 2008 Posted November 23, 2008 Army Temperance Association medal commemorating Queen Victoria, I think the ribbon was equal width red/white /blue/white/red, reading from left to right. The book Taz mentioned:http://www.stewartbooks.com/Temperance_Medal.htm
