Ed_Haynes
Need help, please.Numbered Д61181.Does the "Д" mean what I think the "Д" means?
Guest Rick Research
:Cat-Scratch: I've never seen one with a "D", just numbers-- ???These and all the similar patriotic/civil defense badges from the 1930s were handed out by the hundreds of thousands. Duplicates would seem rather more bother than just handing over another one.
Ed_Haynes
Yes, Rick, that was exactly my thought. What is the official name for these badges? And, to keep the visual image going, the certificate to V. B. Lavrinovich (his badge seems to have gone missing over the years).
Guest Rick Research
"Badge 'Ready for Work and Defense of the USSR.'"This type was created in 1931 and according to V. A. Borisov badge #1 was given to...you guessed it-- Stalin. (I'm SURE he sweated through all the tests. )I'm not sure exactly when these were phased out-- probably during the war. Over 2 1/2 million awarded.
Ed_Haynes
Thanks, Rick. Somehow, that is one bit of information (of many) that keeps falling through the Swiss-cheese brain holes.
