Guest Rick Research Posted February 9, 2009 Posted February 9, 2009 Because he was in a Sto?truppe? Isn't that the visorless "Turkish" pattern German Stahlhelm? Got himself a French POW?Being REALLY picky I note the red slide on his company knot is on upside down.

Chip Posted February 9, 2009 Posted February 9, 2009 (edited) I think the helmet is just a standard one. It's the angle (I think) that makes it look like something else. Regimental Stosstrupp would make sense. He is wearing a M15 infantry strap on his simplified M07/10 Waffenrock. This was normal for stocks of these tunics, which were still being issued long after September 21, 1915 when the Bluse was introduced. Here is what the unit was wearing on the M07 Waffenrock (blue piping).Chip Edited February 9, 2009 by Chip
Naxos Posted February 9, 2009 Author Posted February 9, 2009 (edited) nice strap Chip! The Regiments 169 and 170 of the 52 Division had some selected men trained in April 1917 in Ober-Elsass by Sturmbataillon 16 for theses raids.the pictures are from the morning after the raid (Sept 6 1917), before the prisoners were taken to the rear. Naxos Posted February 9, 2009 Author Posted February 9, 2009 (edited) Being REALLY picky I note the red slide on his company knot is on upside down.not quite sure what you mean Rick - second Bataillon has the red in the middle (it's worn through) on second look I see, you mean the thick part of the Stengel is at the top Edited February 9, 2009 by Naxos
