Lt Hurst and Unteroffizier Thomer were leading the raid party of volunteers from the II. Batl. IR170.Hurst and Thumer made three prisoners two NCO and an enlisted man from from the 63. Chip Posted February 9, 2009 Share Posted February 9, 2009 (edited) I think the helmet is just a standard one. It's the angle (I think) that makes it look like something else. Regimental Stosstrupp would make sense. He is wearing a M15 infantry strap on his simplified M07/10 Waffenrock. This was normal for stocks of these tunics, which were still being issued long after September 21, 1915 when the Bluse was introduced. The Regiments 169 and 170 of the 52 Division had some selected men trained in April 1917 in Ober-Elsass by Sturmbataillon 16 for theses raids.the pictures are from the morning after the raid (Sept 6 1917), before the prisoners were taken to the rear.
