Hi All

I'm Al and I'm also a retired police officer here in the United States.I have recently acquired a City of London police department uniform my questions to you all is how can I find out who the uniform belonged to I have his division and PC no. He was a member of C division and his number is 513, Can I get this information or will I be stone walled because I?m not a blood relative?

Welcome to a fellow ex-cop!

It will depend on the age of the uniform.

Numbers are usually reallocated when officers retire, so there will have been several officers with that number over the years.

If I were you, I'd email the London Metropolitan Archives (who hold old City of London Police personnel records) and ask them for what info they can provide..............explaining why you want it.

If the uniform is an old one (say, pre-1950s), I don't think they'll have any Data Protection issues in supplying the information you want, if they have it.

As Robin says City of London Police hold there records at the London Metropolitan Archive. Are you sure its a City uniform it should have gold bottons?

If it has silver or black it will be a Metropoltan Police uniform who Police the whole of London except the square mile. There C Division now covers the City of Westminster not to be confused with the City of London.
