    Carol I

Many thanks for posting the beautiful series of orders.

I agree with you about the Grand Crodon of the Order of the Chrysanthemum of Japan. It would never have been conferred on a lady at that time. Queen Marie would have received the Grand Cordon of the Order of the Precious Crown. The Chrysanthemum sash and breast star either belong with the collar to King Ferdinand or was conferred separately on King Carol II when Crown Prince.

The Order of the Crown of India was definitely awarded to Queen Marie. She received it on 11.12.1893. However, the badge shown seems to have lost some of its ribbon. There should be a 'tail' below the bow.

    Cheers

Thanks for the addition. I suspected a mistake in the records or at least a mis-labelling.

I am not surprised. The badge lived through the communist years when everything related to the royals was hidden from view in special deposits. And, given the date of the award, the badge even saw the 1917-1918 refuge with probably less than optimal depositing conditions. As a matter of fact, some time ago I read an entry in King Carol II's diary regarding an inventory of the awards of his predecessors he did in the end of the 1930s when he found that most of his great uncle's awards were missing. He did not blame the refuge, but there is a strong possibility that some awards were misplaced or lost during those years.

This sash does not belong to the Order of the Sun of Peru.

Wonderful pictures; many thanks for taking the time to post them. With respect to the Peruvian SUn, Werlich describes the ribbon as dark purple. Here's my Commander's version of the order.

Thank you both for pointing out the sash detail. So it could be that Order of the Sun of Peru was indeed presented to King Ferdinand, while the sash belongs in fact to an order presented to Queen Maria (the Czechoslovak Order of the White Lion or the Serbian Order of the White Eagle?).

Either of those looks like a potential suspect to me.

In fact, only White Lion counts as a possibility, White Eagle having light blue stripes, not white.
