Tom Y Posted March 8, 2009 Posted March 8, 2009 I was lucky to catch someone at the Post Office today so I didn't have to wait til tomorrow afternoon. The studio was R. Dencker, Hamburg
Tom Y Posted March 8, 2009 Author Posted March 8, 2009 I hope someone can read this, cause I can't.And the icing on the cake, a mm I've never seen before. At first I thought it was the mysterious square, but on closer inspection it's a crude 8.
speedytop Posted March 8, 2009 Posted March 8, 2009 Hi Tom, Hamburg d. 14. 6.1915. Wiedersehn. 257 = Reserve-Infanterie-Regiment 257, part of the 77. Reserve-Division 9/ = 9. Kompanie C?ln (K?ln) = Cologne Untfzier = Unteroffizier (Corporal) These are special thanks for good care to a nurse with his picture. It could be, that he was in a hospital in Hamburg at that time. He was a man from Cologne, that is correct for the Reserve-Infanterie-Regiment 257. I don't know, why there is the regimental No. 65 on his shoulder boards. Regards Uwe
Tom Y Posted March 8, 2009 Author Posted March 8, 2009 Thanks, Uwe. My eyes start to cross when I try to read S?tterlin and I go into a trance I wondered about the different numbers too.
Guest Rick Research Posted March 9, 2009 Posted March 9, 2009 Probably the only photo he had on hand, taken earlier in the war.An exceptional nice memento to a nurse from a wounded man.
Chip Posted March 9, 2009 Posted March 9, 2009 The shoulder strap in the photo is interesting, as this unpiped pattern with the tongue of the M07 is seldom seen. It was only in use (technically) from January 1915 until September of the same year. Normally, they were sewn into the shoulder, so I suspect this photo could be from very early in the year.Chip
