Beau Newman Posted March 26, 2009 Posted March 26, 2009 I've gotten a couple of different opinions on this piece. I've been told that the Wagner nameplate indicates that Wagner just did the customizing work (added hooks) to a customer's cross. I've also been told that this is an all the way Wagner piece. Any thoughts?http://gmic.co.uk/uploads/monthly_03_2009/post-6181-1238028817.jpghttp://gmic.co.uk/uploads/monthly_03_2009/post-6181-1238028848.jpg
gregM Posted March 26, 2009 Posted March 26, 2009 Interesting cross.I am only taking a guess here but I do not think this is a Wagner cross. The pin is not what I would expect on a Wagner. The picture of the core isnot clear enough for my old eyes to try to match details of the crown ect.I am sure others with a little more experience will join in the discussion.
Mike K Posted March 26, 2009 Posted March 26, 2009 Hi Beau,That's certainly a cross I'd have no hesitation adding to my collection!!I'm away from my collection at the moment, so from memory this is not a core type I've seen associated with W-S (Wagner & Sohn). I've seen it associated with S-W (believed to be Sy & Wagner) and Fr EK1s. From what I can tell, your cross is also vaulted. I am sure I have an example like it - either unmarked or only marked for silver content from memory. At this stage, I'd lean more towards this being a Wagner altered example from another maker rather than an all Wagner (W-S) piece. In any case, a real beauty!RegardsMike
