bigD Posted May 4, 2009 Posted May 4, 2009 Afternoon gentlemen,Just sorting through some of my British stuff and came across some old photos. This one is dasted russia 1940 and was wondering if any of you photo chaps can see anything bof interest as its not really my bag.(They came with some medals i have)Thanks Dave
Ulsterman Posted May 4, 2009 Posted May 4, 2009 well, for starters the top one is Russia @ 1917 or I'd eat my hat. No war medal ribbons, unusual brassard on that middle officer. i'd love to see the cap badges up close too. The bottom one looks like it was taken on the Murmansk convoys.

Guest Rick Research Posted May 4, 2009 Posted May 4, 2009 The army officer 4th from right first row in the first photo is wearing his rank badges on his cuffs-- that was done away with during the FIRST war.
censlenov Posted May 4, 2009 Posted May 4, 2009 First Post is Definately from the period 1917-1921. Showing a mix of units from both the British and Canadian forces during this time.
bigD Posted May 4, 2009 Author Posted May 4, 2009 Thanks gents for the info,we have a bit of a mystery>.The man marked is a member of my wifes family(the family knew i was into medals so his sister gave left them to me)The man in question led a strange life he was born in russia his name Edward Clively(father was a diplomat i think) he was in the middx reg as a sjt (g100570 on the gt war medals). I also have a letter from a rear admiral putting him up for a position with the allied control commision dated march 1945.His sister did say that he was in russia during some sort of famine...i think that would have been about 1922.Would he have been in the navy then, and someone has marked the back of the photo wrong?Unfortunatly the sister passed away before i could ask her much about him and i have not been able to find out about his ww2 service.I dont want to just shove all his stuff in a box and just let him slip into history like so many othersThanks for your help ...Dave
