Guest Rick Research
Poor Adolph was ejected by the Prussians in 1866 and after decades of wandering, eventually ended up inheriting Luxemburg--which must have made for some awkward social and diplomatic occasions given his long, long life. Here are two sepia Cartes de Visite from the mid 1860s of him in different uniforms, from an album of the Nassau refugee family von Boos-Waldeck who ended up in Bohemia. If anyone knows what units the two uniforms were for, would be much obliged. I've tweaked the color and contrast as much as possible from very faded Velveeta cheese colored sepia. Apparently these were as common and cheap as American baseball cards in the 20th century, so no particular effort or expense was made for things dropped off at every social call. Of the dozen or so that were pulled out of this album, not a one has anything written by the subject on back. No "Hi! Stopped by Tuesday at 3 but nobody was home! XOXO, Adolph." Guest Rick Research
Presumably these Cartes de Visite were printed up by the hundreds back in the day?The male corset doesn't seem to have done him any harm, since he lived to be 92 despite squooshing his internal organs.
