Naxos Posted May 16, 2009 Posted May 16, 2009 Any idea what unit these officers belong to?infront of a Messerschmitt 109
Guest Rick Research Posted May 16, 2009 Posted May 16, 2009 From the visor cap badge, an enlisted man.
Doc Posted May 16, 2009 Posted May 16, 2009 From the shoulder patch sticking in from the right lower corner, Army Air Corps, but not from one of the numbered air forces. Wish I could read the linear tab under the patch (and the pocket patch on the other guy). Sorry, but nothing else helps identification. Maybe one of the technical intelligence teams? Doc
Snoopy Posted May 17, 2009 Posted May 17, 2009 Looks like it could be in the Medeterranian. It's a tropical Bf 109 E or F, with a white campaigne band around the fuselage. Could be north Africa or the south of Italy. Then they would probably belong to the 9th airforce. Correct me if I am wrong.Snoopy
Harrier Posted May 17, 2009 Posted May 17, 2009 Mainland Europe would be my guess, judging from the surroundings, although the aircraft IS in tropical paint. The fuselage band looks like a "Defense of the Reich" stripe. The enlisted aircrew wearing flight jackets seem to indicate the base was being used by multi-engine U.S. aircraft.
Naxos Posted May 17, 2009 Author Posted May 17, 2009 Thanks guys, really appreciate all your input. Here is a larger image
Doc Posted May 17, 2009 Posted May 17, 2009 At least, the guy at lower right is NOT 9th Air Force-- That patch is different. He is wearing USAAF patch, not a numbered AF one. Doc
