Modern German Awards?

Hi Guys,

Can anyone tell me what if any awards Germany currently issues to its troops, for act of heroism, etc. Do they still have the Iron Cross? With Germany being deployed in Afghanistan, has any of their soldiers won any awards?

Hello Monkey God,

the germans give only a few medals to their troups. But there is no iron cross!

They have the Ehrenkreuz (Cross of honor)

in different colors:

bronze

silber

gold

and new since Oktober 2008:

a version with silver and red

a version with gold and red

a version with gold and gold oakleaf (highest class).

And for nearly every misson they give a Mission-Medal to the soldiers. The last mission is "ATALANTA".

By the horn of africa they fight against pirates.

Thanks Elvis, thats very interesting. Shame they don`t give out the iron cross any more, as it pre dates WW2, but I suppose people still connect it with the nazis?
