leigh kitchen Posted May 27, 2009 Posted May 27, 2009 (edited) The same everywhere - tourists ask you for directions: Edited May 27, 2009 by leigh kitchen
leigh kitchen Posted May 27, 2009 Author Posted May 27, 2009 And then they march off in the opposite direction:The police officer in these photos features in a number of other, well known photos of the time.
Mervyn Mitton Posted May 28, 2009 Posted May 28, 2009 Whenever you see photos like this, it makes you realise how close to disaster GB came !! Why do you think the front row of the marching troops are all carrying binocs? Could they be anti-aircraft?
Guernsey Donkey Posted May 28, 2009 Posted May 28, 2009 The photos are taken in JerseyThere are a lot of photos with German soldier and a police man in a british uniformI am looking for photos of Policemen from the 1800's and early 1900's
leigh kitchen Posted May 28, 2009 Author Posted May 28, 2009 (edited) This policeman appears in a few propaganda shots, I think. The only other photos in the group show German troops without the PC.Would you be able to provide a few "then & now" shots? Edited May 28, 2009 by leigh kitchen

leigh kitchen Posted May 28, 2009 Author Posted May 28, 2009 (edited) Thanks.I'm working off old scans that I was given when I bought the photos, hence the poor quality - not that it was good in the first place. One of the e-mailed images was called "Helier cop pics". Edited May 28, 2009 by leigh kitchen
Guernsey Donkey Posted May 28, 2009 Posted May 28, 2009 Could you send me other that you have direct to my e-mailkpike@cwgsy.net as i work for the Guernsey Museum Service and these are always good info for us as the Social History Officer has not seen these before and is very interested in themfor the history side.
leigh kitchen Posted May 28, 2009 Author Posted May 28, 2009 (edited) The only two in the group that feature a police officer are the two I've shown, I'll send some better scans of them when I'm in a position to dig them out.The only photo in the group that isn't shown here is, I think, one of some troops sitting under some palms.I'd seen propaganda shots with Channel Island "Bobbies" before, but it's nice to see some German soldiers "happy snaps" rather then official photos. Dave 101 Posted July 23, 2012 Posted July 23, 2012 hi all I have just come across this forum as I was doing an internet search on this subject , the policeman in the photo may be a relative of mine . Ancient family history now , I have an article from the 1950s newspaper showing a policeman giving directions to a German officer , the policeman was my late Fathers Uncle , his name was Jack I did meet him once when I was a lad back in the 1960s when he came over to the UK to see family members . Unfortunately thats all I know , he did say they would put sand in the fuel tanks of the German vehicles . I know this is an old thread but you never know who may see it one day . ATB Dave
Mervyn Mitton Posted July 24, 2012 Posted July 24, 2012 Dave - welcome to GMIC. It is always nice when old pictures come back to the top - gives a chance for new information to be posted. Do you have any other pictures of your Great Uncle ? Mervyn
bigjarofwasps Posted May 23 Posted May 23 Just stumbled across this thread. What amazing photos!!! I’m aware the Channel Islands police didn’t qualify for the Defence Medal, but it maybe interesting know that service during the occupation did count towards, their LSGC. Although I don’t recall ever seeing one to a Channel Islands Bobby.
